Bath size

We are having a new bathroom fitted, and need to decide asap the size of the bath we put in.
The builder is (highly) recommending a full bath (170cm) but we have been toying with having a 150cm.

We don't use the bath, it's only used for our 5 year old, so for us it seems like a waste of space, but he thinks a smaller bath would look too small and we'd regret it.
We are also having a separate shower put in (140cm x 70cm) if it's relevant.

Help!

70 is really narrow for a shower.

why do you want to put in a smaller bath, what advantage is it.

if it's not your forever home, why wouldn't you put in a standard bath if you can?

Most online are 700mm wide?

I think with the bath, we won't use it, and only do now for our son, so we just think why not have more floor space?

It is our forever home, I guess that's more reason why we wanted a smaller bath, as our 5 year old will at some point have showers, so then no-one would use it?

150cm baths look fine if built in or designed to be freestanding like an egg bath. But if it’s just going to be along one wall with a free end, you’re better with a standard size one-a foreshortened one will look odd imo. What is the advantage of more floor space?

Geneticsbunny · 23/02/2023 19:06

Your 5 year old might grow up to be a bath lover?

NightNightJohnBoy · 23/02/2023 19:10

Why 150? You could save space and go even smaller (but deeper). That's what I've done. Fabulously comfortable (or it will be when the plumbing is in and I can fill it!!)

PleaseJustText · 23/02/2023 19:42

@NightNightJohnBoy I dream of one of those baths. I'm 5ft2 (158cm) and can't lean back in our standard bath without holding myself tensely or slipping in the water.

Surplus2requirements · 23/02/2023 19:46

Baths are becoming less important to house value, it's increasingly common for customers to choose not to have one at all and choose a larger shower.

Not that it matters much if its your forever home and if the extra space would be helpful.

It comes down to esthetics really so whatever you'd prefer

We have a 700x1500 bath in our downstairs bathroom and it's absolutely fine. I can bath the three kids together in it and I've had the very occasional bath in it (I like baths but never seem to have the time to actually have one)

We have 150cm bath in our family bathroom and a walk in shower, it’s only used for young children and makes the best use of the space, everyone says they prefer a walk in shower to one over the bath.

I'm average height but I'm half in, half out of full length baths, I have to choose between my boobs and my knees. Im hoping that this solution will let me keep both under water! I'll keep you posted!

Can you post a photo or link to what you mean?

Whyisitsodifficult · 23/02/2023 21:38

@NightNightJohnBoy ooh do you mean a Japanese/Omnitub tub? I’m looking at these at the moment. Would love to know your findings and a photo!?

@Getthefiregoing when I first read that I thought you were asking @NightNightJohnBoy to post a pic of the boobs or knees conundrum 🤣

Something like these - check the dimensions carefully if you want it deep (and deep isn't always great for kids) but if you want a 'just in case' bath...

Haha! Grin I've got first hand experience of the boobs/knees conundrum so I'm good for that! Although with boobs sliding ever sideways they're getting more and more tucked under the water anyway Confused

NightNightJohnBoy · 23/02/2023 21:48

I'll leave the boobs and knees to the imagination 😆
I didn't go for an omnitub- they look amazing but seem quite wide , so expensive to fill. I went for something narrower (hopefully cheap and quick to fill)

Thanks everyone!

We’ve decided to meet in the middle and go with a 160cm! 😂
