Can I convert this wood burning stove to electric?

We are buying a house which contains a wood burning stove (pic attached). I'm not keen on the idea of it because of the air pollution they create inside and out (the house is in a large town, not a rural idyll!)

There are two brand names written on it - Valiant and Von Haus. It is possible to convert it to electric? Any companies you'd recommend to do this? If not, is the only choice to get rid of it?

Don't know about the conversion, but that is an absolute eyesore.

No. You need to decommission it, remove it, make good the plaster/paint and then install and electric fire. (And possibly move an electric point as I cannot see one you can use to plug a new fire into.).

I think it’s possible yes, you get basically an electric insert, you know with fake flames and have that installed inside it .

I don’t think this is correct. A quick google says lots of places can do an insert and that’s how to do it.

The fire will need to be drilled into to allow for an electric lead. This can and usually does (9/10 times) result in the fire cracking. It’s not made of a material or designed to be drilled into. That will refer the fire even more of an eyesore than it is and basically a large block of rubbish to dispose of. If op removes it as it is, costs can be recouped by selling it - they go for decent prices second hand. If there isn’t an electrical lint within a faulty short distance then it would be better practice for op to have a socket installed rather than going for extension lead option.

I put a bio ethanol burner box in mine. It’s great, warms the room well - also no flue needed so you can get rid of that bit.

Point not lint! Not even sure about the refer - revert.

Thats a Charnwood Cove 3 - VERY expensive log burner. RRP 3500ish.

See if you can sell it on.

For a bit of diy a nice profit to be made!

DottyDry · 22/02/2023 15:40

You could replace it with an Optimyst, we have one and it uses water to make a real flame effect. Need a plug tho. And you can buy a fake flue for it.

Or you can just buy the flame effect cassette, but there's no heat just flames.

Sell the stove, as someone has said it’s an expensive model/ make. Then with the money you can buy an electric stove and still have some spare cash.

StaringAtTheWater · 22/02/2023 18:51

Gosh, I had no idea it was that expensive! Stripping it out seems like the most sensible idea then. Any suggestions on where to sell it? Assume I'll need to get someone in to seal the chimney up also?

Sell it on Facebook or eBay. Buyer collects etc. Selling to a 3rd part salesman, may mean you get less as they have to add on their own profit margin when selling on iyswim.
Your picture does not show a chimney only a flue. It might be easy to block or even remove, entirely depending on how everything has been installed, but also may not !

'Valiant' is probably the brand of the magnetic round thermometer on the front.
It simply lifts off.
