get the garage sorted out with proper racking storage so the shite (tools etc) my hoardy other half wont shift that is still in the spare room from moving in 3.5 years ago can go in there , and then can finally decorate that room new carpet and turn it into a proper room

Paint the outside of the house, redecorate the sitting room and replace the sofas, new flooring on the landing and two of the bedrooms and I'd love to find someone to restore the floor tiles in the hallway.

New guttering on conservatory

Think that's it

We've done a lot since 2020 though

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 19/02/2023 16:54

Paint the hall and bedrooms. We have colours chosen, which is always horrendous, so we're practically halfway there!

Put the pictures back up in the sitting room and dining room, which we painted last year.

There's half an acre of garden that could be a fulltime job in itself, so I have to sit down and make a plan for where best to apply my manual labour; there won't be any spending on it.

Block up the holes in the garage ceiling where mice are getting into the attic. The little fuckers climb up the cinderblock walls like a ladder and the ceiling, for some reason, doesn't quite go all the way to the edge.

I think I'll sit down tonight with DH and decide when to take annual leave to do the painting. It's easier to get him started if he has lots of advance notice.

Bedroom - move electrics, plaster, paint, skirting, fitted wardrobes and carpet. I said that last year and probably the year before.

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 19/02/2023 17:04

Decorate our bedroom, the hall stairs and landing and decorate the kitchen diner

Veryfaraway · 19/02/2023 17:07

It really depends on how much our mortgage payment changes. A new boiler, cleaning the roof and painting inside are top of a long list though.

Pretty much my whole house, kitchen, bathroom, windows, replace all flooring down stairs, garage conversion, hall stairs and landing plastered and new carpet, new roof, insulate the loft. Ideally I would knock the house down and rebuild it

TattiePants · 19/02/2023 17:32

Last year was a very expensive year with a new roof, the outside of the house painted, painting the hall / stairs / landing and new thermal blinds / curtains in 3 rooms so this year the focus is on finishing off jobs.

We didn’t ask the decorator to paint the doors when he painted the hall etc as they needed a lot of prep work (100 year old) and I wanted to do it properly so that’s 11 doors to sand, fill and paint……

Replace the dado rail in the bathroom that I took down when we redid the bathroom but now regret!

Sort out the front garden. Between the storm in November 21 and replacing the roof, the front garden is trashed so needs a fair bit of work.

Id love to replace the en-suite as it was the first room we did when we moved in over 16 years ago but I don’t think we’ll have the budget this year.

OatFox · 19/02/2023 17:33

We need to replace the shed roof so that's happening early next month.

New carpet on the stairs and landing this year hopefully and maybe an upgrade of the hall with some wallpaper.

Nothing too major.

I have literally just finished my house. I'm waiting on delivery of an armchair then I'm done. My plan is now to keep it tidy and enjoy it (not sure if the tidy pet will happen!!)

Marking my place to answer properly in the morning as eyes are closing.

i have a long list of plans, some have started to be actioned

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 21/02/2023 22:54

FLOORING -
Replace flooring in the kitchen and living room

GENERAL -
Build a load more storage (have the units already) to go in hallway and spare bedroom
Move TVs around (so the smallest in the spare room and the largest in the living room) - hang on walls
Boarding out half the attic - for storage
Drop down ladder for attic access

PAINTING
Paint living room walls - have chosen colours just waiting for my chosen yellow to come into stock

GARDEN
plant new bulbs in the garden planters -
paint the garden fences
Do pots along the front garden fence

Build a bar unit (repurposing old kitchen units and a worktop) in the garden & put it under a pergola

POWER WASH
Power washing the back patio / front ramps

PLUMBING
Fit bidet attachment to toilet
Fit outside tap

GUTTERING
Clearing the guttering

SMALLER HOUSE JOBS - THAT WILL KEEP THINGS RIGHT FOR LONGER
Cleaning out any drains / outlets
Replacing tumble dryer vent hose - they tend to get tiny bits trapped

We're five years into renovating our 400 year old house - it's taking so long because we're mostly DIYing it - but the end is (almost) in sight now I think.

This year we hope to -

  1. Install the downstairs toilet
  2. Fit a few doors (primarily the bathroom which was actually finished two years ago!)
  3. Fully enclose - and slightly extend - the porch, adding two new doors
  4. Do more landscaping of the half acre back garden which was overrun by weeds when we purchased
  5. Sort the front garden (needs lots of plants)
  6. Lay new flooring in the newly opened up living room (formerly two rooms)

Seriously I can't see us doing half of that, but I can but dream!

Then it's just building a new shed, replacing the septic tank and repointing the stone house exterior in lime.
