Fitting bathroom extractor- Cost

Has anyone recently had a (high powered) bathroom extractor fan fitted? There's not one there currently, a hole through the wall to outside will need to be made (ground floor). Just wondering approximate costs for getting this done? Thanks for reading!

Depends where you are in the country but I would think you would be looking at whatever a day rate (or half a day if they can find another half day job for someone else) for an electrician plus parts so £200 day rate for an electrician plus £30-70 for parts?

I’m south east and was quoted £330 labour and £90 materials for this, broken down as follows:
Bathroom
• Lay floor protection over the floor.
• Chase the walls for the cables to be run
for a isolation switch to go on the wall on the landing and to go to the new extractor fan.
• Bore a hole into the wall for the extractor pipe.
• Install the extractor fan and the isolation switch.
• Fill in the chases with bonding plaster then fill over the top with easifill.

I'm in Yorkshire, day rate for my sparky is £250 per day plus whatever the parts are you need for the job.

Agree with Mums you will need an isolation switch, usually located outside the bathroom and above the door.

High powered fans are inline fans which are not something you can fit into a downstairs bathroom unless you have a void in the ceiling big enough to take it. Otherwise you are going for a standard bathroom fan but you can have one with a run on timer so it stays on after you turn the light off, or a humidistat one that detects moisture in the air and stays on until it is removed.

The work involved would be chasing out the wall and possibly the ceiling or boards up upstairs as a 3 core cable will be needed at the fan.
Most fans nowadays stipulate that they must be fused down on both live and S/L so a fan isolator with a FCU combined would be needed. These are normally places central above the door.

If you want a high powered fan, I would go for a 6" with a back draught excluder/shutter. These use less power than a "big" 4"/100mm and move more air.

I would likely quote around £400-500 for the install.

But it depends entirely on the access available etc.
