Neighbours wood burner stinks my house out!

Our neighbours have recently put a log burner in their extension. The chimney has been erected on the flat roof and isn't very tall and isn't far away from my bedroom window. I darent leave any windows or doors open as my house stinks of smoke. After we had a quiet word with them about it, they started buying the wood/ coal from a supplier. This obviously proved too expensive for them and only last week a friend of theirs dropped off a load of chopped wood which has been left out in their front garden in all weathers and they are burning it without drying it out.
The smoke from their makeshift chimney is billowing and causing a nuisance, not to mention stinking my house out. I have grandchildren who stay with me and worry about carbon monoxide poisoning. I honestly believe that the chimney they have erected should not be sitting on a flat roof and should be higher than the house. What are the legal requirements of erecting a chimney on a flat roof .

Contact the council, I think it's environmental health, and report it. They have an obligation to deal with this kind of thing.
Smoke like that is legally classed as a nuisance. And you're likely in a smoke control area meaning you can't burn random solid fuel.
Might be worth asking on the legal area of the site as well.

Definitely environmental health dept. Burning wood which is not fully kiln dried is a big issue due to the smoke
