Kitchen island seating hob, prep sink - island size?

Unsure whether we want to go down this route but want to exhaust all possibilities and not regret decisions!

We are going to be doing a mini renovation with new kitchen and can have an island up to 3.5 X 1.2m (possibly longer).

We would like to have seating for 4 around the corner at one far end: 2 along the short and 2 along the length in an L-shape.

We can fit an induction hob at the other end so those sitting at the island are a couple of metres from the hob.

Where, if at all possible, could we put a small prep sink? I can’t see how it would work if it is by the hob? Would it need to be somewhere in the middle of the island? If the latter is the only possibility then we will scrap the idea.

If anyone has a picture (either their own or found from the internet) then please do post it or DM me - I have trouble visualising the space.
TIA!

So I have been back to the proverbial drawing board and have moved the hob from the island to the back run.

Would the following spaces be reasonable/practical:

  • 50cm to the left of the hob
  • hob 90cm wide
  • 120cm between hob and sink
  • sink 60cm wide
  • 60cm counter to the right of hob for draining rack (dishwasher underneath?

May put a small prep sink on the island, directly in line with the hob and at the opposite end of the island seating area.

I will try to upload a diagram shortly!

Here’s plan - all to scale except the pantry, which is more squarish at 195 X 160cm.

The hatched lines are the free counter tops, including one by the oven to put things down.
I have moved the freezer into the pantry, as we don’t access it regularly. Microwave is also there.
Initially thought of having an L-shaped kitchen but the sink with the dishes etc will be in your line of sight rather than our overgrown garden

I am now thinking of adding a small prep sink only to wash vegetable before chopping on the counter.

The dotted lines down the left side are indicate glass doors with a view into the garden.

You enter the room by the door on the left and there is almost 2m width between the breakfast pantry and counter. Walking between them will take you to the living area, which extends left beyond the paper. Dining table is on the bottom right.

TIA

Both pics are the same - not sure how I uploaded it twice!

Personally, I wouldn't have the sink and dishwasher in the corner. Every dish, saucepan and mug has to be taken there and it would be highly inconvenient.

Is the breakfast pantry already in situ or something on your wish list? Are the broken lines beside the dresser where the windows are, overlooking the garden?

We have a dresser where the breakfast pantry currently is. My thinking is that by converting it into a breakfast pantry, we can prep breakfast there and eat at island.

Glass door/large picture window between sink and dresser (probably will be a drunks cabinet) and then big olds/sliding doors by the dining table.

I can see why it looks like it would be a PITA to have the sink in the corner. Currently where we have it is more of a pain so this is an improvement for us. I want to try to keep the sink out of the way as it’s the most clutttered part of our kitchen

If you have wide drawers below the island counter top, wouldn't you keep breakfast cereal, bowls etc in them? We have several large drawer units and keep a lot of food and crockery in them.
