Outside Pizza Oven and BBQ station worth it in the UK

We want to revamp our garden this summer, including the patio area. We definitely want a gazebo with table and chairs.
I am not sure if its worth getting the pizza oven and the outside bbq?
Esp, the pizza oven - if you have one, do you use it much? Just considering the weather. We are in the SE.

If you are going to use it get it , my neighbours have an outdoor kitchen and they use it all year round (SE) .

DP is making an "outside kitchen". So far it is a fire pit and a poorly constructed clay oven that cracked and then collapsed when he tried to fire it.

I remain unimpressed.

We don’t have a built in pizza oven but we do have an Ooni that we take out as and when. It’s gas, how would yours be fuelled? Gas is quick and easy, I didn’t want the hassle of solid fuel. We did use it last winter haven’t this winter, it does come out regularly when the nights are lighter and warmer though and makes amazing pizzas.

I wouldn't personally, they're ugly

This made me laugh.

If you enjoy cooking, and like the kind of food you would make on the BBQ and pizza oven, then yes. We have a Traegar pellet grill and a Gozney roccbox pizza oven in the garden and use them year-round (English Midlands). We make most of the Christmas dinner in the Traegar and we have had pizza most weekends in January. It is rarely so cold in the UK that you can't be outside seeing to the food but it is a good idea to consider rain protection, eg a gazebo or awning, and lighting.

I don’t know you but reading that I can see the look on your face 😂

We have an Ooni pizza oven but rarely use it, despite doing homemade pizzas every weekend. I get better results doing the frying pan + grill method and the Ooni is a faff to get out and use and not practical most of the year (cold, wind, rain, dark). But our garden is exposed (windy). Might be different if it was a permanent set up with more protection and a working area. But I find myself dashing in and out of the house trying to cook pizzas in the Ooni at the same time as prepping the next pizza. We only really use it in the summer months if we’ve got friends over.

We don’t have an outdoor kitchen as such, but we do have an Ooni that runs on wood or gas and a large Weber barbecue. Also a Solo Bonfire stove. We use the pizza oven a lot - not just for pizza, dh cooks all manner of things in it.

He bought the proper Ooni table for it so it does live in a permanent spot with all his other gadgets.

I built a brick BBQ against the garden wall which looks like it will collapse if the big bad wolf sneezed.
It was put to use as a BBQ for a few years, but still remains and is managing to prop up the garden wall

We have a clay pizza oven in our garden. And are currently on the south coast. We use it a lot and haven't regretted it. We now only use it from March to October, but before that DH was outside in his own in winter while we watched him from the window waiting for our pizzas. Grin We're moving to the north soon and won't get a permanent one there though as it rains a lot where we're moving to. So will buy an Ooni. We don't have BBQs but it'll depend on what you have most of.

BarrelOfOtters · 13/02/2023 14:02

We've got a gas BBQ just outside the kitchen door. .. Did think of getting a built in one - but the budget ran out when doing extension and garden revamp. But in rainy north west and it's used all year. Cook fish, steaks and veg on it. So quick to heat up.

Thought about a pizza oven - there's a spot with an old washhouse chimney...but we really wouldn't use that enough to make it worthwhile the heating it up etc etc.

MakeItADouble2 · 13/02/2023 19:20

This is very helpful and has helped me make up my mind. I'm not really into cooking that much so we start off with a bbq - which will get DH to do and then we'll see about other things like the pizza oven
