Nice looking Lino?

We moved in October and are refurbing lots of the house but the budget means there's no chance of doing the kitchen for now... probably for a few years tbh.
The actually kitchen itself is old fashioned but clean, functional, perfectly serviceable and with a few plants and cookbooks I've made it look ok. But I can't bear the floor. It's a lino that looks like terracotta tiles and it just drags the whole look of the place down.
Obvs there's no point spending any money replacing the floor properly now when we do intend to refurb the the whole kitchen within 5 years. But maybe it might be worth spending the money on better Lino? Are there any good lino companies that actually do something that looks decent?

Following as we’re in a very similar boat!

Following for hints

But in your shoes I'd go for something simple and classic, like white and black squares

Saltywalruss · 12/02/2023 22:54

Do you mean lino (which is quite unusual now), or vinyl? I',d go to B&Q for vinyl.

TizerorFizz · 12/02/2023 23:06

I’ve never favoured the draughts board look but there are loads of vinyl floors you could look at. Start with a John Lewis to get ideas. You don’t have to buy from them but they have quite a few brands at different pricing points. Look at local retailers. Find out how the floor is laid. That’s often more money then the floor! 5 years is quite a long time so I definitely would do the floor. What colour work tops and cupboards do you have? Often a wood look is good. Some of the natural stones are realistic. I’m going for terrazzo in a bathroom. It’s quite big in interior design at the moment.

Do you want lino specifically or would you consider LVT (vinyl)? I have been looking for a while for something interesting for my utility.

The lino I’ve found tends not to be patterned or has very old fashioned patterns. Marmoleum seems to be an updated form of lino. www.bricoflor.co.uk/flooring/linoleum.html

For LVT, I’m quite taken with some of the offerings here:

I really like harveymaria.com for vinyl tiles. Not as cheap as lino roll, but looks great and lasts well

WeeM · 13/02/2023 05:00

Our local independent carpet shop has so much choice of lovely lino- some of it is really thick and quite expensive but the cost to lay it is cheap as it’s so quick to do. We have a sort of dark grey slate type effect one. I chose it over tiles as tiles are cold underfoot and everything breaks if you drop stuff on them!

WeeM · 13/02/2023 05:06

This brand here have some nice stuff

Nat6999 · 13/02/2023 05:22

I'm looking at lino that looks like bleached oak herringbone planks for my hall, quiter than having laminate as I live in a flat.

rwalker · 13/02/2023 05:37

We put VERY cheap laminate down in hall to freshen it up until we decided what to do

14 years on still there looks ok

LadyMargaretDevereux · 13/02/2023 06:06

We put very cheap lino type stuff (off a roll, that sort) in the bathroom to cover up really horrible tiles as an easy fix and it looked great and transformed the room. We chose very neutral, 'nothing' sort of design, but it looked really good.

SubParbanMum · 13/02/2023 06:12

Colourful flooring company - they do Lino, rubber and cork flooring

maryofthevirginkind · 13/02/2023 06:39

We bought a new build and chose what looks like wooden floor. Replaced it with LVT and to be honest you can hardly tell the difference to look at. There's lots of nice Lino about.

gettingolderbutcooler · 13/02/2023 14:36

Excuse filthy floor. This is ours- Harvey Maria. Lvt.

Nice looking Lino?
Talipesmum · 13/02/2023 14:45

We have Mardi Gras sagres in a pale grey in the bathroom and it looks great. I liked the whole range, though it might be a bit busy for a kitchen. Just go for something plain and neutral and it’ll be a big improvement.

Lakeyloo · 13/02/2023 14:47

We used carpetright for the vinyl in our Ensuite
www.carpetright.co.uk/vinyl/roma-596-eleanor-vinyl/
This is probably a bit "bathroomy" but they have loads of different options at reasonable prices if you are looking for something to make do until you do the refurb.

bussteward · 13/02/2023 15:04

Colour Flooring Company for v good sheet vinyl in plain block colours including unusual ones eg pale pink, Dutch orange.

Hoppinggreen · 13/02/2023 15:08

I would be very very surprised if anyone on here actually has Lino.(linoleum or marmoleum) It’s a difficult to fit and maintain natural product that is mostly used in commercial premises
People probably mean sheet vinyl.
I have sheet vinyl in 2 of the bathrooms in a mosaic effect and it’s nice. We have luxury vinyl wood effect planks everywhere else. I am a big fan of vinyl, the right one fitted well is easy to clean and maintain and lasts well. Looks good too

Have a look at this website for budget friendly but stylish options :

violetcuriosity · 13/02/2023 15:41

When I did a cheap makeover on my bathroom while I was saving to get it done I bought a cut off Lino from here www.flooringsuperstore.com/vinyl-flooring/stone-and-tiles and paid someone to fit it properly, it was so cheap and I was really pleased with it!

Nice looking Lino?
alwayscheery · 13/02/2023 15:42

There are some natural
Looking herringbone wood effect vinyl sheets and some super Victorian / Fired earth look patterns which tend to woek better in smaller areas like bathrooms or hallways . Lots of lovely patterns to choose from.
