Inside of window frame ..blind query ..with photos

Had a company to put this and another blind up.

He recommended inside as opposed to out side as it is thermal and black out.

It has been bugging me all week.

Is this what inside of the widow blinds are meant to look like ?

Pictures not the best.

Very deep set window on the landing.

Would be grateful for views

Thanks.

Below the space for text is an option to "add images" that's how you add photos-

The blackout is not effective with all that light bleeding around the edges. I'd go outside the inset as I need pitch black in a room to sleep.

Just looks so bare !

I think the dark fabric is not helping the overall look, and maybe something patterned or brighter might improve the look.

Is the fabric curling under/in or similar to produce the bowed-in effect on the edges?

bizzey · 10/02/2023 17:33

Main company who fitted them said to go inside.
Extra blackout and thermal.

How would I word my problem ?

Maybe I should have realized they wouldn't fit !!

Big window handle to open window is on otherside of blind.

Old fashioned single glazed window.

Don't think that was taken into consideration.

It's curling in at the edges.

I'd have said a Roman blind inside the frame would work better.

Your blind isn't effective. Also, it looks too short. Is it fully down?

cleowasmycat · 10/02/2023 17:40

Blind should roll towards the window and be drying the handle

cleowasmycat · 10/02/2023 17:40

Behind not drying!

I have roller blinds at all windows. They are fitted inside the reveal. That’s what you are calling the inset.
Roller blinds can be fitted outside the inset ( the reveal) but look better if they are inside it.
My window handles are on the other side of my blinds of course so I pull my blind up when I need to open a window.
Your pics are bad but I hope this helps. You will always get a bleed of light with any blind so I’ve also got curtains on a track above the window frames too.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 10/02/2023 17:46

You will always get light bleed round the sides of a blind inside the reveal as the blind cassette and brackets have to be wider than the fabric.
However the blind should belong enough to reach the sill

bizzey · 10/02/2023 17:54

Ok thanks .
I think I still need an outer "something" to make it look cosier ?

We have this issue with our self fitted blackout roller blinds. We have also hung some black out curtains as well which has really help. Our bedroom is south facing and gets all the sun😎
Funnily enough I was thinking about them today and whether Roman blinds would be any better. They'd look nicer but we do get mould on our current blinds so I'd worry about that.

BenchOfCompany · 10/02/2023 18:56

Thermal is best right next to the glass and black out will reduce the light but there is always a gap around the edges so the mechanism can fit and the blind can move easily up and down.

I think it looks stark as you have gone for such a huge contrast of colour from the wall to the blind. Did you want black? In the children's bedrooms ours are white and blackout but we also have blackout curtains.

In your situation I would have gone for a roman blind on the outside of the window or a Bloc blind which has an internal track on the inside to ensure a complete blackout with a roller blind.
