gas hob not igniting - who to call ???

I have a basic question. When i press the ignition button on my gas hob none of the rings are lighting. Should i be calling a gas registered engineer or an electrician to fix it
Im assuming the ignition button has nothing to do with the gas but im wondering if only a gas safe registered person can do work o a gas hob ??

Seal plugs to check the socket and change the fuse in the plug before you do anything else. But yes it's fine to light the job other ways OP.

Batteries can be in odd places, ours was right at the bottom of the cooker, see if there is a a small panel covering what looks like a battery space anywhere it should be accessible so no removing of oven parts should be needed

Hello thanks for the messages

i. There is no spark at all in any of the four rings
ii. I am going to buy a lighter today but im not sure if this is a safe long term solution
iii. It is a debut my new world hob but i dont have the instruction manual for it
iv. I dont have a glass top on it at all

A lighter is perfectly safe.
have you checked the electrical switch that controls the hob lighter? This happened to me. Someone had switched it off and I used a lighter for months before I noticed the switch was off.

Im very rubbish at this, i have been looking for the manual online but havent been able to find it. There are two plugs. I assume one is the hob and one is the oven but both are switched on and there is no spark at all to any of the 4 rings. Would i somehow have to remove the front panel to get to the battery or are you suggesting the fuse in the plug may have blown ?

Isn’t the left one switched off?

Trouble shooting link. It basically says try cleaning the ignition parts

One of those plugs is turned off.

whoruntheworldgirls · 07/02/2023 21:02

When this happened to us it turned out we'd accidentally turned the power off at the socket when putting something away. Our power socket is in a cupboard to one side of the hob

it looks similar to it but im not sure its very helpful. All it seems to say is call someone if the thing isnt igniting. Im not clear if they mean and electrician or a gas engineer

You can use a hob lighter. When it runs out of gas you can just use the spark, which is piezoelectric, ie doesn’t need a battery.

It is not dangerous so don’t worry about that.

espares.com has videos on how to replace the ignition but it’s cheaper and easier to buy a hob lighter.

My hob switch is a fused spur, but if yours isn’t, then just switch the plug back on.

Look for a plate either on the back or inside the door that tells you exact model number (it's also where the serial number can be found) that will help you find exact manual. Try the new world website first as some websites will charge you to download when manufacturer might have it free.

It is mains gas isn't it? (Ours is bottled).

Userusing1 · 08/02/2023 07:44

I would probably try changing the fuse first and work from there
