How to fill this gap?

We have this gap in the kitchen of our new house and ideally I would like to extend the worktop across it, to the wall. This sounds like a stupid question, but how would we do that? Would want the space underneath kept free.

can you buy more matching worktop? and cut it to the right size. if so, put up shelf brackets at both sides & put the new piece of workshop across the top - it is almost a DIY job.

You attach a batten to the wall with rawlplugs and screws to support the end of the worktop. Might be worth putting a leg at the back out of sight for some extra support.

Either buy a piece of matching worktop. Attach it to the walls by placing two strips of 2x2 wood around the walls and than laying it on top and securing it wil screws from underneath. You may also need a floor support for the side next to the wall panel, or you could also use 2x2 wood for that too. It would probably look better if you use a joining strip between the old worktop and the new. Alternatively, you could replace the full length of worktop with new, depending on length and what it butts up against.

Sorry posted before you put your picture up.
Might be a job for a joiner if you are not a confident at DIY
I think I would get an nice oak trolley to slide into the gap without blocking the radiator.

TheChosenTwo · 06/02/2023 16:06

Is your radiator going to stay there? Do you have any more in your kitchen? Shelving right over the top of that might really
impact your heat!

Paddingtonthebear · 06/02/2023 16:06

Yep definitely not skilled to cut the worktop to size and fit it all ourselves 😆

it just seems such a wasted space and we do need the counter space for something to go there . I did think about a small trolley or butchers block but then there would be no space for a kitchen bin underneath.

It’s the only radiator in the kitchen

That’s good point about heat!

I'd put narrow freestanding shelves in there .
