Fridge freezer in dining room

Our flat only has a small under counter fridge in the kitchen and we desperately need more fridge space and a freezer. No garage. I was thinking of getting a tall, nice looking (ie not plain white) one and putting it in the corner of the dining room - which is right next to the kitchen. DH thinks this will look terrible and put off buyers when we come to sell, probably in the next couple of years.

He definitely has a point but short of a full kitchen remodel, which we can't afford, I don't know what else to do. I'm heading back to work soon after mat leave and really want more fridge space and especially a freezer to be able to batch cook meals.

Would this massively put you off? While it's not going to win any interior awards, I honestly don't think it would look terrible... But maybe I'm just biased in my desperation!

@tothelefttotheleft

How does it keep working in winter? Mine goes off when it's too cold?

We have had a Beko in the garage which hasn't given any trouble at all

Beko are the only manufacturers I could find who didn't object to the freezer being in the garage.

We also have a condensing washer dryer in there too, it's more fancy and sends a text when it's finished. John Lewis installers were perfectly happy with its location in the garage.

Such a help, though if we ever get around to extend, that will become the kitchen.

Not really understanding the "emphasising the size of the kitchen" thing. The potential buyer will be standing right there looking at the rooms, there'll be no hiding the size of the kitchen even if both it and the dining room were completely empty?

Yes, get one now.

Remove it before you sell.

You can get lots of 'wraps' to disguise a fridge freezer.

Jesus, don't Hmm. They're hideous!

We have had the chest freezer in the dining room for the last 3 years as garage was demolished then COVID and finally waiting on last few bits for the new one then can move it back out

It's just how it's had to be.

I think the telephone box could work, chuck some fag-ends about, wee up the side and maybe stick some sex-workers business cards on the door!
😁

But surely if your not planning to move for such a long time it won't matter having a freezer during that time wherever you can put it for your use..there cheap enough to pick up and dump when done

You can buy ones - particularly freezers that operate in conditions as low as -15°c.

If you’re not planning to sell for a couple of years, get a fairly cheap one. It’ll make your life so much easier now. When you come to sell get rid of it - because it does say this house has a tiny kitchen.

agree

mrsbyers · 05/02/2023 17:26

I’d get a lovely smeg one and make a proper feature of it x

Heronwatcher · 05/02/2023 19:38

I agree you could get a cheap one then get rid. But are you sure you can’t get it in the kitchen? Could you not re-jig part of it and remove some cupboards, then put the stuff from the cupboards in the dining room in a nice sideboard or shelves? Do you have a washing machine or dryer in the kitchen- if so could you move that out (understairs or in a bathroom)? It’d be better to solve the issue properly if you can.

That's a really good suggestion.
A cupboard/dresser would look totally at home in the dining room, not like it's been shoehorned in because it can't fit anywhere else.

Appreciate all the suggestions! @mrsbyers I do love the Smeg ones but they're pretty expensive... Think a cheaper one and moving it when we come to sell is the best option overall. The wraps gave me a laugh... It's a creative suggestion, but we definitely won't be doing that 🤣
