French doors

We're just starting an extension project. Will have french doors and a window in the new back wall onto the garden. The builder's drawings show a 1.6m wide for both, but looking at things is seems 1.5 or 1.8 is more standard size for the doors?

Also-UPVC vs aluminium. The rest of the glazing in the house is UPVC (but to be fair, will be a replacement project at some point in the near future) Are there any major advantages to aluminuim when it comes to doors? Are they less likely to need adjusting than UPVC? All the other windows are white so presumably white frames would look the best over different colours? Bricks are a yellowy/red colour (but extension will be rendered and painted

We'll also need a new side door, which we'll need to put a cat flap in, and not bothered about material, UPVC/wood? Recommendations?

I have oak French windows/doors and they have a frame. This means the space is wider than the door. Ask the builder (why builders’ drawings?) what size doors he’s thinking of. My guess is 1500.

I would choose one make of doors/windows and stick with it! We have just had a Kloeber back door with side window. Very high quality. You might find whites are not all the same or the window furniture so I wouldn’t mix up window manufacturers.
