Neighbour's security camera

Hi everyone! Need a bit of advise. We have just moved to a new house and I can see neighbour's camera is near our kitchen window. It is a round camera, looks like a half ball, with black glass casing around it. How can I check if the camera is not directed towards our kitchen window? Is there any way for me to check without going to the neighbour? Really don't want to bother them if the camera looks at their pathway by their house

Have you met them yet?
Are they friendly?
Why not invite them round for cuppa and get the conversation around to cctv along the lines that you are looking into getting cctv for hoke, what system have they got? Where did they get it from? Who installed it znd would they recommend it? Could you pop round for a tutorial to see how theirs operates so you could get an understanding of what to look for when looking at systems online?

Sneeky, but then you'll know as presumably they'll be open enough yo show you the coverage each camera has on screen.

Would that work?

I would hold off having sex on the kitchen table until you know the answer.

I don't think there's any way you can tell just by looking at it. By your description, it sounds like the sort of camera that can be turned internally, so if they chose to they could examine in both directions along the side of their property. It's a good thing though as it potentially protects your house too by being visible to intruders.

The only way you will know for sure is to see the footage yourself.
Wide angle lense?
Have certain angles been blanked (done in configuration) to avoid seeing certain areas?
You will have to bite the bullet and bring the subject up with your neighbour.

When we had CCTV fitted to our old house we invited the neighbour around to see the footage (they were chilled and declined the invite). 🤓

You could buy an ornamental tree in a tub, and place it to block the camera.

Bay grows well, and holds its leaves in winter.

I wouldn't mind this because they won't be interested in watching me do the washing up, but I'd put window film up so I didn't get paranoid lol.

Bad enough knowing neighbours with ring doorbells can hear what you say when you're outside and near it.

I doubt whether they ever check the footage anyway unless there's been suspicious activity

With my friends new system you can see everything if watching the live feed from the camera but you can create a mask to cover sensitive areas on the recording. So her camera looking over her yard doesn't record her neighbours coming and goings - their drive runs across the back of her yard.
One thing for certain is the novelty value of CCTV quickly rubs off.
