Struggling to find a good gas hob

I really hoping someone can give me some hands on reviews for 5 burner gas hobs. I was originally drawn to Bosch, Neff, Siemens, either stainless steel or gas on glass, but I've read some very mixed reviews, especial concerning cleaning and durability. I do a lot of wok cooking so need the high heat of a decent wok burner.
I love the look of the gas on glass but have read they are hell to clean. I also considered Smeg as I always thought they were a decent brand, but they're made at the same factory as Beko. Are AEG any good? WhateverI end up getting I'll be stuck with so don't want to regret my choice. I joined Which for their hob reviews, but they've tested very few 5 burner gas hobs.
Another option would be a domino wok burner and 4 burner induction hob. Has anyone changed from gas to induction and been happy with their choice?

I have a very very cheap gas on glass hob (four burner so mine would be no good to you), but it’s a joy to clean.

every time I clean it, I marvel that it takes less than five minutes and yet I can still cook with gas.

im trying to think of a negative - maybe that i don’t like cleaning the iron stands, but they don’t need a huge amount of cleaning. Honestly, I recommend gas on glass to anyone who’s asked me.

I've switched gas to induction and it is great. far easier to clean and works beautifully. especially if you want things to simmer which gas does not do well.

IKEA do really good induction pans that are pretty cheap, unlike most brand names.

I have a neff porcelain top that's easy to clean, but i don't think that's the key detail, we just clean it straight after use, the way you would clean a counter top straight after use.

Induction goes like a rocket. Get an induction hob and a wok designed for induction.

I had no idea how much gas cooking was irritating my asthma till I switched to induction. Much cleaner and more efficient.

I have a 6yr old black neff 5 ring gas hob. Cleans really well and comes apart easily if you want to clean all the rings. Can't fault it

I a massive gas fan but I'm biting the bullet and going to go induction, I have heard great things and people who have switched swear by it. I think there's going to be a massive push to ditch gas soon so want to future proof my kitchen as it could put off buyers and be even more expensive in the future. X

I have induction and wouldn’t change to gas. The burners are quick and responsive, it’s easy to clean and safer (it will switch itself off if left on after pan is removed, doesn’t heat as high and air quality is better).

With Smeg, I’ve always been a bit sceptical that it’s a brand which is style over substance and seeing a review of one of their espresso machines which is a pretty much a Delonghi Dedica in fancy dress for double the price has confirmed that for me and I’d avoid the brand. Not that it’s bad quality, but that it’s overpriced for what it is. No experience at all, direct or indirect with their hobs though.

I'm the opposite. I've got an induction in this house, but so regret not putting in gas. Had to buy new, heavy pans that nearly break my wrist when trying to pour/dish out the contents. Yes, it's quick and easy to clean, but so was my previous gas hob. Both hobs are/were 90cm glass from AEG. Will def go back to gas if I move again. Have kept all my old pans, as they are a joy to use and clean!

Neff are my favourite. I put the burners in the dishwasher.

I moved to a new place with an induction hob and I really dislike it.

Decorhate · 04/02/2023 14:24

Neff gas hob here too. 14 years old & never had any problems 🤞

SharkVega · 04/02/2023 14:29

We've got a neff gas on glass hob and cleaning it is easy. The pan stands go in the dishwasher and the glass gets wiped down. It's 12 years old now and still looks as new

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 04/02/2023 14:32

I've had two Neff gas hobs, and my parents have a Neff too. Theirs is approx 50yrs old and still going strong.
I had a gas on glass one for 11years in my last place, worked perfectly and very easy to clean. Now have an inherited gas on stainless steel one, also very easy to clean because it's stainless steel so can scrub if needed but I just wipe it down daily and it's never hard. Current one is over 10yrs old.

If I was getting a new gas job I'd go for Neff, but I am considering getting induction if I ever need to change this one.

Read an interesting article about professional chefs switching to induction.

Apparently gas should be on the way out. Heavily implicated in various health issues.

@Mariat06 I always go for Bosch, although I've never had a 5-burner one. I like the stainless steel ones, as they are really easy to clean & look great.

RunCbRun · 14/11/2024 10:02

Hi @Mariat06

I realise that your post is almost two years old, but I'm not sure your question was really answered. I've done A LOT of research on gas options with the high power need for Wok cooking. There are some very good options both on gas on glass and on stainless steel, it's a matter of preference, but gas on glass is definitely easier to look after.

Have you made your choice already? You probably have, it's been so long. If you have, what did you choose and how do you like it? And if you haven't, send me a message and I'll give you a few brands that have enough power on their work burner.

Hi @Mariat06 I'm looking to buy a gas hob and getting super overwhelmed. I like the look of a black glass top but have been told it will be hard to clean and get scratches, should i get stainless steel? I do cook daily but have no issue wiping it down after every use. I wanted to get Neff as it matched the oven I wanted but also looking at Bosch and AEG. Any advice would be appreciated?

Same. I put the trivets and the covers in the dishwasher and they clean beautifully

dizzyupthegirl86 · 27/11/2024 12:56

@Sparkypinkdiva I’ve got a black gas on glass one and it cleans up really nicely! I use a cleaning spray or if I’ve neglected it for a bit, a steam cleaner, and then wipe down with a micro fibre cloth. Had it almost four years now and it’s in great condition.
