What can I do with 3m sq expensive tiles?

We're having a new bathroom done and I'd calculated that we need 13m of wall tiles. They're special order, not cheap and can't be returned.

The fitter arrived and told me I'd actually need 20m. I queried this twice but he was quite insistent (said I didn't understand the amount of waste). In the end he agreed that he'd be able to do it with 16m, so I ordered another 3m.

He's just told me that actually I was right to begin with and 13m was correct 😭 So now I have 3m of expensive tiles, unopened, that can't be returned. I'm really annoyed but loathe to make too much fuss as generally he's been great.

What can I do with these tiles? Any ideas would be welcome. If I could make a bit of money back that would be great (they cost £500) but even if I can't I'd rather they went somewhere they would be used, rather than sitting in my loft forever or becoming landfill.

What pattern/finish are they...ie, neutral.. distinctive... obviously bathroom?

FirstRenovator · 02/02/2023 11:54

Try selling them on eBay or fb marketplace - I have seen people buy from those sites

Cinnamonandcoal · 02/02/2023 11:56

People do sell excess tiles on eBay. You might have to wait a bit for someone to buy them.
I have the same problem and wish I'd queried the amount more at the time.

ODFOx · 02/02/2023 11:56

If they are striking enough someone may use them as a feature wall in a shower cubicle? It's worth trying to sell them if they are special.

DietCroak · 02/02/2023 11:58

They are not especially distinctive- a neutral colour, rectangular, but hand-made and with a lovely finish. I will stick them on ebay, thank you!

Would they make a nice splash back for kitchen or utility ?

Galadriel90 · 02/02/2023 12:01

They be heavy to post so i wouldn't personally list them on eBay. I would list them on Facebook marketplace cash on collection.

bussteward · 02/02/2023 12:06

Agree eBay (collection in person) or marketplace - I’ve sold excess bathroom stuff on both. Generally got more money on eBay as a wider audience - say in your advert you’re happy for people to arrange their own courier.

Crazymadchickenlady · 02/02/2023 12:14

Use them in the downstairs loo? That’s what I did with ones left over.

Crazymadchickenlady · 02/02/2023 12:16

And I’d wait till he’s finished before doing
anything with them

RJnomore1 · 02/02/2023 12:18

Do you have a small toilet or utility room?
porch?

You may be able to sell them on locally too.

jimjamy · 02/02/2023 12:19

I'd keep a few in loft for repairs.

GoodChat · 02/02/2023 12:40

I'd try marketplace before eBay

chupachump · 02/02/2023 12:43

Seems like I'm the only one but I'd expect him to meet the excess cost as the fitter pushed you to order more knowing they weren't refundable. You could have ended up with even more than you have if you hadn't pushed back.

spiderlight · 02/02/2023 12:44

Could you use them to cover a table for the garden or something? Some ideas here:

Ches board on your patio?

NellyBarney · 03/02/2023 08:59

I would keep 1 pack just in case a tile gets damaged and needs replacing, especially if it's floor tiles, but sometimes wall tiles crack too, if there is some slight wall movement or someone is to keen with a drill on the other side of the wall.
