Kid safe pest control

We have mice - it's an old property and we're in the process of improving it, and it sat empty for three months before we moved in so I'm not surprised. But there are tiny entry holes everywhere that won't all be filled for years (when we can replace every floor, new kitchen, etc etc).
I saw droppings before and thought we had it under control but today I just saw one run across the kitchen floor.
We can't get a cat (sadly) due to my husband's allergies.
I'm not sure humane traps will help as they'll just come back! We live in London - there are mice, rats and foxes everywhere outside. But I'm scared to use poison as I have two children under 6.
The electromagnetic sound things don't seem to work.
Any ideas?!

We are in a really similar situation, though even worse as our pests are rats and we know they’ve been in the kitchen 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

We have three small kids, one of whom has just started to crawl. Council pest guy came around this week and confirmed the situation, he has put poison down and will be back to check out the damage. He was very reassuring and said we will get rid of them, he also walked around the house with me and pointed out access points. I’m currently trying to fill every hole in some way but we are planning to renovate very soon so I’m hoping the piss off when that happens!

We tried traps but they didn’t work and we have those pest noise things, not sure if they work but the sound isn’t good so we have to turn them off if we’re in the room.

Sorry if that’s not helpful, sending solidarity and, if you can, get the professionals in!

Poison is the only way! Also spray every hole with filler.

I'm not joking when I say that would mean covering the entire downstairs floor with filler as it's dmaaged original floorboards with huge gaps.
But we are having most of that redone in the next month so that will close a lot up. Also got to have it lifted first to re-earth the house 🙄
Not having a good week with it all.

When we had a mouse in our garage, the usual traps and other poisons didn't work, the only trap that worked was something I saw on YouTube. A spinning coke can smeared with peanut butter threaded onto a wire over a bucket of water. It worked night one. Mouse caught and dead. We never had any issues since then but we were obvidealing with one mouse as the garage was half empty it was coming in for bedding for nest, we had paper that had been shredded up by the mouse etc. Go on YouTube, lots of ways to catch them.

snap traps are the most effective and most humane.
place them along the walls. you can put a bit of cardboad over it if you worry about your children's feet and fingers.

get a few wire woll sponges and close off the most likely entries this way.
