House buying anxiety

Anyone else struggle with this? My partner and I are currently renting about 30 miles away from where we used to live. We can't afford to buy a house in our old town, and have spent the best part of a year trying to find a place to settle. Every time we find a house, I get so overwhelmed and overthink everything. Is it the right house, are the schools good, is this where I want to raise our kids etc etc. We're looking for a long term home and spending the best part of half a million pounds and I'm so terrified of making the wrong decision that I'm just doing... nothing. Help!

I presume all of us were nervous before buying our first property.

I don't know if that is likely to be bigger with such a whopping budget or not as people with much more modest budgets are still putting their all in to it.

How many places have you looked round ?
Do you have anyone who can look round with you who has bought before ?

I know I much appreciated my Mum's opinion when I was buying my first property, and I know my dc have been reassured by having me come and look with them when they have started looking to buy their first property. Not that I now anything about building or surveying, but just a slightly less emotionally involved pair of eyes who can help you make lists of pros and cons and help encourage you when the very normal anxiety kicks in.

I am the same op, but I am buying my last home and know I will never move again. If I get it wrong I will be stuck as won't have the cash for moving costs again. I completely understand your fear and indecision although don't have any answers. At least the market is no longer rising at a frantic pace where every month of indecision costs you £££. With all previous purchases I did 'just know' when I saw the right house so hope the same thing happens for you.

The important thing is to recognise that it isn't forever, you can (and probably will) move again.

I've owned four homes, and stayed 2.5 years, 9 years, 9 years and 11.5 years. Lives, careers, schools, towns change. Just buy to be happy for the next few years.
