Buying near a main road?

Seen a really nice house today, but it’s on a very busy 30mph road (it’s the main road into the town)
The house itself is set back from the main road on a separate road (if that makes sense) so you have main road, turn right off it and other roads come off like a ladder and this would be the first road.
There are large hedges between the road it’s on and the main road, so you can’t see it but you can hear it. It’s about 20m from the front door I would say.
Tbh it’s only busy early morning and rush hour, but during those times it can be very busy.
I really love the house, but is the close proximity to the road going to be an issue? I think I’m my head I’m making it worse than it is, but I have never lived on a really main road?
Is having windows open a nightmare?
Will we sleep with the noise?
Am I being too much of a worrier??

I’m being honest, no I wouldn’t do it. I would choose a worse house on a quieter street every time. Lots of reasons but I hate noise at night and really hate not being able to open a window because of noise, I don’t like the fact that you might be stranded in your house at certain times of day if the traffic is bad, and I’d also be really worried about emissions especially if the traffic is stood still. I’d also be worried about selling it on. Sorry if you didn’t want to hear this but I wanted to be honest.

We bought a house last summer and it sounds like it's in very similar circumstances. I was pretty worried about road noise but honestly we can't hear much inside and during summer we very quickly got used to the road noise in the garden and soon seemed to block it out.

I previously lived backing onto a small woodland nature reserve that then led onto a dual carriageway and it was far more disturbing. Cars would go 40-60, sometimes faster and it was so loud.

The main ongoing worry I have is if the dog gets out and I'd worry about ever having a cat.

Also for what it's worth I quite like the fact we live somewhere with a bit of life around us.

I used to live on a very busy 30mph road and would never choose to do so again. I loved the house so thought I could put up with it. The noise was constant and noticeable when windows were open on warm days or at night, and in the garden. Very big vehicles sometimes made things rattle in the house. I used to worry about dogs or dc getting out. It definitely put some people off when I came to sell.

My house took a long time to sell. We actually got lucky and part exchanged it to a bigger new build but the developer that bought it got stuck with it for almost a year and in the end took an offer of 15% reduction on the price.
They didn’t actually go in the garden when they did the valuation and they came at midday when the traffic was a tiny bit quieter. It was such a relief when we moved.
