Want to change the look of my (U/F heated) floor. Doable?

I live in a modern house that’s about 4-5 years old. Built by a developer and generally the finish is good etc.
However, most of the ground floor is open plan with wet U/F heating.

The floor finish is ceramic tiles. I hate the colour of them. Trying to cover with rugs etc but it’s not working. They were in vogue 5-6 years ago and now look very dated.

Obviously can’t take up the tiles, but can I cover them with an additional floor covering? Has anyone done this?

Im hoping for some success stories 😉

Watching with interested , I have stone floors I hate but with electric UF heating. I'd love to change them

You should be able to change the tiles with wet underfloor , if you remove them carefully it shouldn’t be a problem, the pipes should be under at least 50-65mm of screed ? So unless your really smashing the floor up there should be no damage to the pipe work . It will take longer and cost more to remove them , but it can be done.

Yes... I can't imagine everybody with ufh is expected to live with the same tiles forevermore 😱

Covering them will surely make the heating less efficient?

You could screed over them and then cover with LVT but you would need a thick layer and skirtings/doors would need to come off.
Done carefully you should be able to get the tiles up

Take up a tile carefully where it won't show. There should be detra matting or similar. The screed is under that and the pipes below the screed.

We’ve taken flooring up and relaid over wet UFH. As pp says, it’s under concrete so you just have to make sure it’s done carefully.

We didn’t take our flooring up. Self levelling and then new floor. Perfectly ok.

Thanks all for your messages. Much appreciated.
Good to know it can be done; these tiles start at my front door and run through the whole of my ground floor. The area must be 50 - 60 sq.m
😱
This is very much a medium term house for me, so will get someone round and see how much it’ll cost… then weigh it up.

I was quoted £10k for replacing our tiles which run through the whole ground floor. We're making do with rugs... they're large square white tiles which look cold and clinical and dirty within seconds of mopping. I hate them!

Eek 😱 @RNBrie
Im thinking rugs as plan B. You could get some nice ones for £10k. And take them with you!
