Ongoing Bathroom Nightmare - Insurance vs New Bathroom

Hi everyone, had the bathroom fitting from hell which eventually finished to a usable state mid-December (still HUGE snagging list). If you are in NW and planning to get a bathroom via a local company, please PM me so I can warn you away from this company!

Last week, when I flushed the loo water was pushed out of shower plug and shower was not draining. Tried plunging and drain clearer to no avail, rang the bathroom shop and they said it sounded like a blocked drain, i.e. nothing to do with them.

I said I felt that a bit rich considering bathroom has been in for a month and only lightly used, but they were adamant. So I contacted my homecare and they came Saturday night, plunged it and it seemed to work. He didn't have camera with him so couldn't inspect drains but said keep an eye on it and call them back if not.

Started happening today so rang home emergency who referred me to my insurer's trace and access (home care and insurance through same company). Trace and access said I wasn't covered as no damage was being caused to the property. Rang the homecare back who agreed I needed to get private trace and access, then call back so they could fix it.

Private drain camera company came and drains are completely clear. He said he thought the gurgling might show air in the pipes and probably a faulty ventilation pipe.

I am now waiting for homecare plumber but spiralling at the fear of them cracking open walls in the new bathroom (I know, much like googling diagnoses, probably shouldn't google plumbing disasters!)

Can anyone console me with gargling that didn't involve wall breaking? Should I let the emergency plumber break walls or go back to the bathroom shop with proof it it their fault/ let them diagnose it? (They refused to come look when they said it was a drain issue)

Sorry this was a long one!

I hate to say this but your insurance may not cover builders negligence (mine doesn’t). I can’t PM somehow .. please advise if it’s a small family company anywhere near Blackpool as I’m currently planning a bathroom refurb ..!

The emergency plumber has been out and says its to do with the shower junction to the soil pipe, both of which are behind the beautiful new feature wall! Also pointed out all the drains sound wrong, i.e. shouldn't hear them gargling out of the soil pipe :(

He said to ask the home care to email his report out to me tomorrow and then I can send it to them and ask them to assess...

I want to cry!

I've PM'd you.

Luckily it's all on a credit card so covered that way and guess it'll be small claims ahoy if they try to worm out of it!
