Spray painting front door

Is this possible? We have a bespoke front door and garage door which were spray painted before installation. We'd like them redone. Is it possible or is it only an indoor thing?

Anything can be sprayed.

@StarInTheHeavens - thanks. You mean a painter can spray front door etc outside without removing it?

From my limited painting experience, spray painting is only done with water based paints. Outdoor paints are often oil based for durability, but have also seen water based ones. I am no expert so can't say how they stack up.

Also I think you would have to remove the door. As otherwise you'd paint over the hinges and door frame.

What’s so important about spray painting? That would normally be a factory finish, due to mess and possibly fumes. Use a paintbrush, or get a painter to do it.

Well we did get a painter to do it - and it's a bodge job which needs re-doing. We liked and wanted the smooth finish of how it looked before.

If you want a smooth finish the painter will have to sand the door smooth before they paint or strip it. This is much more labour intensive and will cost more than just a regular paint job. Especially if you use gloss the imperfections are really noticeable.
