Bathroom ranges- classic without being "ye olde bathroom"

We're renovating an old house and I'm currently looking at bathrooms.

I quite like Burlington but find some of their stuff a bit too ornate and trying too hard to look period but in an anachronistic way (see eg www.burlingtonbathrooms.com/product/birkenhead-regent-angled-bath-shower-mixer-deck-mounted#image-2)

What I'd really like is something that is clean and simple and looks ok in a traditional bathroom in a period house but without screaming "traditional bathroom!" Does that make any sense?

Any recommendations?

We got our bathroom from Victorian Plumbing. It's one of their 'period' ranges but we kept tge decor fairly modern so it doesn't look too try-hard ( the house is Edwardian).

I’ve just search modern period bathrooms in Pinterest and loads of fab ideas like this one!

www.tapwarehouse.com/p/crosswater-belgravia-bath-shower-mixer-kit

weve used crosswater in our shower and pleased so far.

You need the Heritage Bathrooms catalogue, it's chock full of just what you want. Once you've chosen then go to 'qssupplies.co.uk' for the cheapest prices.

The brand 'Waterworks' is trying to take a modern twist to traditional taps and showers, but it's about twice the price of Burlington. Burlington has an art deco range that I quite like, it looks more streamlined, and I think levers rather than cross heads at period style taps look more 'modern', but that might just be me. Heritage is indeed a lovely brand, traditional but less clunky than many other period makes.

We've used Heritage, they are part of the Bristan Group. Luckily Dp works in the trade so we got most things at cost.

That's the shower I have been looking at, very nice. Did they do the bathroom installation for you as well?

kingofchaos · 17/01/2023 21:57

@thisisthway my OH fitted the bathroom luckily as we were on a real shoestring budget.

I think they can arrange fitting though.

Love the shower! We've been here 3.5 years and only just had the shower fitted end of last year!

Mega money but look at:

Aston Matthews

Lefroy Brooks

Barber Wilson

Drummonds

Prioritise a back-to-wall concealed cistern because nobody likes looking at a plastic elasticated shit pipe.

Heritage bathrooms are great and have what you want.

You're so right! I've been having a similar struggle. Especially when I've been looking at toilets, the only options seem to be hyper-fussy "traditional" ones, or hyper-streamlined modern ones. My best options so far are Twyford Options (utilitarian, but classic) and Nuie Carlton (a bit more fussy, but less so than many).

I love what Heritage and Silverdale have, but DH can't cope with their prices. ("My old toilet cost £50, and it was perfectly good.")

Glitterkins · 08/12/2024 16:21

Has anyone tried the Twyford Heritage bath? I am worried that it might be too narrow at the bottom, but the manufacturers won't help with dimensions.
