Cream or white? - interior walls

We are going to look to sell up in 2024. Ideally we wouldn't move but need more space!

I am slooooowly sorting all the things that need doing, so we've had a (cheap) new bathroom, fixed roof etc. Our next job will be reskimming dreadful Artex ceilings and some damaged walls, and painting.

I am looking to make the house feel clean, bright, and appealing. I personally prefer light cream to white, but what do you think most people would go for?

Personally I'd go for cream on walls but the massive new build development is painting everything white so presume that's what buyers must prefer.

Mammaplanner · 15/01/2023 19:58

I would say white, cream can be quite dating

Karmatime · 15/01/2023 20:07

Dulux Timeless, it’s a soft creamy white and looks fresh but not harsh.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 15/01/2023 20:29

Thanks! Yes Dulux Timeless is what we have on woodwork. We have Fine Cream on walls atm but aware it might not be everyone's taste!

I don't like white - I find it too clinical.

Dulux Desert wind and Cotton thread are nice. They are not as creamy as they appear on the website - almost white but with a warmer tone.

Sweetener12 · 16/01/2023 05:47

I'd choose light cream, because white just looks kinda cold, but it's about ones perception. You can try interior design programs like interior-design3d.com/ or similar to apply different colors and see which ones work better together.

Wheretheskyisblue · 16/01/2023 05:49

How old is the house? White is good on new, ultra modern style. Otherwise timeless or jasmine white.

Entwifery · 16/01/2023 10:25

I'd prefer white personally, as I find cream to be a little too close to the magnolia obsession from the early aughts. I find it quite dated and associate it with older people's homes. We've just painted over our cream hallway walls in Dulux Rock Salt, which is a slightly cool/grey-tinted white and it really changed the vibe of the hall. Mind you, I don't like warm wall colours and most of my rooms are a variety of green or blue.

White, as agree with pp cream can sometimes look like magnolia

ouch321 · 16/01/2023 18:56

White

LynneBenfield · 16/01/2023 19:01

PBW can look really cold and bleak in north or east facing rooms but will be the cheapest to do with a decent quality trade paint.

mynameiscalypso · 16/01/2023 19:05

We've just painted our house with Dulux White Cotton. It's ever so slightly warm but works very well.

FindingMeno · 16/01/2023 19:11

I would prefer white.

NellyBarney · 16/01/2023 19:31

White, slightly off-white with the smallest amount of grey mixed in so you don't have to wear sunglasses in an empty house.

NellyBarney · 16/01/2023 19:34

Timeless is such a safe colour, op, better than Dulux Professional Brilliant White.

mightymam · 16/01/2023 19:46

White. The first thing someone is going to do is 'put their mark on it' to make the house their own. White gives them the perfect base to do that.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 16/01/2023 21:31

Okay, Timeless White it is!

I do like Fine Cream and think it works well with the light here (SW coast) but also don't want people thinking it's frumpy.

We have a Dulux trade counter / outlet place locally that also does retail so I'll be stocking up on some big vats of Timelessas soon as the weather warms up!

Thanks everyone.
