Room size for king bed?

Would love to get a king size rather than double bed when we move into our own property but all the bedrooms in houses in our price range are pretty modest. How big is your bedroom if you have a king size bed or larger?

our bedroom is about 4m (into a recess that's fitted with a wardrobe rail but no wardrobe doors, but more like just over 3m actual useable space) x 3.25m wide. we have a king bed and just about enough room to walk around it on 3 sides but it's certainly quite crowded.

our bedroom is 11ft wide 14 ft long and plenty of room for a king sized bed we have a large wardrobe in the alcove where the chimney goes and have around 2 feet gap round the bed to walk round but we do have an alcove over the stairs where the drawers units fit

Here we have a king in a 10ft by 10ft 4in bedroom. It's a newer build so there's no chimney breast or anything like that.

The headboard is up against one of the 10ft walls, opposite the wall the bedroom door is on. The bedroom window is on one of the longer walls. The entrance to the ensuite is on the other long wall - the door opens outwards from the ensuite and just about makes contact with the side of the bed. There's more than enough room to walk around the bed when both the ensuite door and main bedroom door are closed.

Some sacrifices had to be made in terms of furniture (e.g. sliding doors on the wardrobe, rather than ones that open out) but it's worth it to have a good sized bed.

I think our bedroom is around 3.5 x 4m, we have a super king and have plenty of room.

We do have built-in wardrobes though which save a lot of space, it would feel quite cramped if we had freestanding wardrobes I think.

Thanks for the info! Do you think we would comfortably get a king size bed in one of the two main bedrooms of this house? Bedroom 2 is the main bedroom for the current owners. Both have built in wardrobes in the alcoves but would probably need to get an additional chest of drawers in the room too and at least one bedside table.

Our bedroom is 18.5ft by 16.5ft which is admittedly pretty huge!

We have a superking.

In my opinion you need 80cm of clear space to move around a bed, ideally more. Don't forget the duvet comes out further than the bed size too.

DFS say a king mattress is 150cm x 200cm. I'd allow 190 X 220 for bed, headboard and duvet (assuming a divan type of bed). Then another 80cm all around.
So 350 X 300 for the bed and space. Bedsides would be inside this, wardrobes and drawers additional.

My ex created room for a king sized bed and wardrobes in our bedroom by moving the stud wall between two bedrooms by just a couple of feet - the depth of a wardrobe. So the doors of the wardrobes were placed where the original wall was the the other bedroom, shared by our two boys, was only a little smaller.

We had wardrobes opening in our room for 3/4 of the length of the wall with a smaller wardrobe opening into the other bedroom. There was still room to have a double bed in the other room when the boys left home, creating a guest room.

For the width of the bed at the headboard end, I would say you need a minimum 9ft of clear wall. This will give 2ft (about 61cm) either side for your bedside cabinets and to be able to walk alongside the bed.

61cm is narrower than ideal, but personally I would prefer a bigger bed than more circulation space here. We spend more time sleeping than "circulating" in this room!

If you have less than 9ft of width then you might run into problems. I would really want to know the measurement between the edge of the door frame and the window wall. Bedroom 1 might be OK in this regard but bedroom 2, I suspect, is too small and you'd have to give up one of the two bedside cabinets to get it to fit.

The bedroom 2 measurements also tell us nothing about how far the wardrobes project into the room. Hopefully the wardrobes at least have sliding doors and not doors that open out into the room!

I think that you'd be absolutely fine with a King in Bedroom 1 @trrk , and probably Bedroom 2 with a little less room than would be entirely nice but not too bad if you don't have any chairs or other furniture (bedside tables excepted)
