At what point do I do the work myself and send them the bill?

I have a housing association property next to my house. They have huge trees in the garden, the branches of while overhang hugely into my garden.

Seven months ago I contacted the HA to get them to prune/lop the trees.

Since then, they have done a tree survey, and we are now waiting for their tree surgeons to be free, as they are currently carrying out ‘higher priority’ work for the association.

The thing is, another eight weeks and nothing will be able to be done for another six months as it’ll be nesting season.

At what point am I able to bring a tree surgeon in myself and send the HA the bill?

A tree surgeon can cut off branches over your property, you cant get the HA to pay the bill. You cannot cut anything off the tree that does not overhang your property, that is criminal damage.

You can pay a fee to the council who may instruct them to prune the tree but should tell you to negotiate first. You can not reclaim the fee.

You can’t do that - you can cut the branches overhanging on your property but you have to ask the HA what they want to do with it as their property.

You can’t do the work and bill them.
