Tips to downsize

Hoping for some help.

Divorce from DH is likely to be finalised in a couple of months, at which point this house will go onto the market.

It is me and 1 year old twins in a 4 bed detached house at the moment, we will likely move into a small 3 bed. Not too fussed about this and looking forward to a fresh start.

My issue is I have a lot of stuff (home decor and furniture!)- enough to fill a 4 bed house plus garage, and have a tendency to hold onto things (My Mum is ten times worse so can't ask for help from her! 😆). I also don't have much time to dedicate so I wonder if there's any practical tips to do things little and often?

Any pearls of wisdom will be gratefully received!

I can give you the theory - but it isn't so easy emotionally or in reality for those of us who like to hang on to things.

In some ways, until you know what the house is like you are moving in to, it makes it difficult to know what to keep and what to get rid of.
I'd also presume you want each room furnished for your marketing and sale. So I wouldn't be thinking about getting rid of furniture until after that
BUT if you can empty your loft, your shed, the cupboard under the stairs, the garage now, then those will all be jobs you have already done, so you will be that much further on.

Then, can you "thin out" things that are inside all your cupboards ?
Are all your ex-dh's things at his new place ?
