RightMove help please

Currently browsing RightMove as we are looking at relocating.

Up until now I have opened the site and put in a location then that gives me lots of options along the top to specify distance range, price, number of bedrooms and type of property (detached) and date listed.

When I have opened the site the last couple of days, these options aren't showing. How can I make them come back please?

Answered my own question! Cleared the cache and that seems to have sorted it.

Or use the website instead of the app or vice Versa

Make sure you sign up for alerts so you get notifications about new properties with your criteria. Don’t rely on remembering to go back and search.

@planefullofotters

We're just browsing at the moment as our current house is not yet on the market.

Very reassuring to see that there are several properties which tick all our boxes, (and that they are selling).

We need to spend a few days in various areas to check out the general vibe but we aren't in a position to view yet. Just to complicate things, we don't actually live in the UK at the moment.

As an aside (and possibly derailing my own thread) where do I need to be looking to see if adjacent land can be built on? I am assuming that the usual searches would bring up any current planning/development applications, but if we are buying somewhere that backs on to (e.g) fields, where do I look to see if there is a possibility of further housing being built?

I am guessing that just asking the agent/vendors isn't necessarily going to get an accurate reply 😉

Your best bet is find the Local Plan for that area - it should be on the relevant council’s website. That will tell you if any land is currently earmarked for major development. Local Plans are redone every few years.

Other than that and the council’s planning portal, I’m not sure there’s an official way to tell anything further. Local knowledge? Asking around on Facebook groups?

@OneArepa

Thank you - that's very helpful, will have a look.

I would always assume that it is possible that any field close to houses would be built over, and try to make myself accept that before I bought. We have a field opposite, I dearly hope is doesn't get built on (and not just for selfish reasons) but if us being here depended on it staying as it is, I would not have bought this house.

In the long run, if a developer really wants to build on land, they almost always will, whatever the locals or the council or whoever says, and whatever the land designation is. Builders have central government politicians' ears-it could not, of course, possibly be that they have hold of those ears via politicians' pockets, or political parties' pockets........because that would be Wrong, and therefore would never, ever happen.🙄
