Happy New Year!
We are in the process of trying to work out what to do with our currently unusable conservatory!

We were going to have a flat roof put on but are now being told our footings (although deep enough to hold the roof) would not be deep enough to satisfy building regs so we're now having a rethink.

Has anyone used a conservatory roof insulation company, pros and cons please?!

Any other ideas welcome, it is a large conservatory which wraps around in an L shape around the kitchen. The plan is to be able to use it more as a snug / breakfast room.

We can't dig our footings down any further as getting machinery into the garden will damage our patio which is relatively new.

Thank you!

We converted a standard plastic roof to tiled, with plaster finish inside. It has made such a big difference to the room and we use it all the time now. Still need a radiator (like any other room) but we can eat in there in winter and in summer it’s lovely to have the doors open to the garden.

People will tell you to knock down and build a proper extension but it would be at least 4/5 times the cost I’m sure!

we paid around £4k for the tiled roof. Still expensive for what it is but they did a good job and have no regrets.

Ps yours sounds a lot bigger than ours so you will prob be looking at more like £8-10k depending on size

We replaced the plastic sheet roofing with glass and it made a massive difference - much quieter and it's a lot cooler in Summer and warmer in Winter. You can get them with film to reflect the heat to make the temperature more bearable and also "self cleaning" which stops the build up of dirt/algae. We're glad we did because the old plastic roof made it unusable and we've now got a fully useable room at a fraction of the cost of a proper extension.

@Hairybaker Sounds great, thank you. Did you need building regs /planning permission for that to be done?

@taxguru What company did you use for this please?

@taxguru , could you give me an approximate idea of cost for replacing with glass? Is it double glazed? Is weight an issue? We’ve a big conservatory which is beautiful except for the pollycarb roof...

Mine was built with reflective, double glazed glass. We've always been able to use it all year round.
