Can I put an integrated dishwasher where a freestanding one was?

A quick google tells me they don’t sit in a cabinet like an integrated fridge or cooker

can I just replace the freestanding one with an integrated one and pop a matching door on? Is it that easy? (I know from experience nothing is ever easy)

i guess I’d need to extend the plinth each side over the gap too?

In principle, yes you can as the dishwasher sits directly on the floor. The only problem will be the opening width. For a standard integrated dishwasher, the opening width needs to be a max of 600mm. Free standing dishwashers are often 600mm finished width, so go in an opening of circa 610mm. You can get a new 600 door (nominally 596mm) but you’ll find that the door has two unsightly gaps down the vertical sides due to the opening being originally made for a free standing unit.
Hope that makes sense.

It does make sense and it’s what I’d worried about 🤔

off to dig out the tape measure

I guess I could fill the gap with a bit of wood jammed in vertically?

it’s a painted kitchen and we already have a door of the right size but I’m sure the gap must be a bit bigger than 60cm as the current one has a bit of a gap each side

Jamming a piece of wood in isn’t ideal. Depending on what’s either side of the dishwasher, you might be able to move the base units together. Good luck
