Would you pay for the upgraded kitchen?

Hello lovely ladies of mumsnet.

Buying a new build. They've offered to upgrade the kitchen for an additional £5,000 is this a good deal, or would you take the basic option and upgrade later?

What are they offering?

Depends. What are the upgrades? Better cabinets or white goods?

To be honest, most of it is about the fit but things like quartz over laminate would make me upgrade.

White goods wise - I had my heart set on 2 Neff hide and slide ovens that were out of stock January to July (kitchen fitted early August). Instead of going for two £1,300 ovens I went for two £450 hour point ones. They look nice and cook well. I’m really glad I saved money and also put dishes on the pull down doors to stir or move shelves etc which I couldn’t have done with the hide and slide. If the £5k is on white goods, I would leave it and instead upgrade over the next few years once you’ve used it.

What's it on? For me it would be;

Intergrated instead of free standing -Yes
Stone worktops over laminate -yes
Better kitchen units - Yes but I haven't seen a good quality builder kitchen ever
More sockets - quickly throws money at the builder

Tilling no - that's a weekend job for me and DH tho
Better appliances - would depend on the cost of just doing it ourselves and selling what they put in
Cupboard inserts etc - nope universal fit ones for DH one afternoon

Would it include granite or quartz worktops instead of cheap ones? If so I'd upgrade. Extra plug sockets ..... again a yes.

We paid £3,500 for a kitchen upgrade in our new build. This included:

White goods (fridge freezer, washer dryer and dishwasher)
All appliances were integrated
Upgrade to double oven (single was standard)
More choice of cupboards (prefer the design of the upgraded ones)

We also paid for quartz worktop over laminate (extra £3k)

We weighed up the cost, overall it was cheaper to upgrade than replacing the whole kitchen once we had moved in. Also less hassle.

I suggest you understand exactly what is provided in the base level spec and what is included in the upgrade. (For example, kickboards and the external walls of cabinets were all oak laminate on the base spec.)

Depending who your company is, at our reservation for the house we negotiated a free upgrade with the kitchen.

Included pull out larder all white good inter-grated. Double oven and a nice hob and extractor. I'd read usually there's money to spare in urgency for you to reserve so we have it a shot and it paid off.
