Anyone got a Rayburn or Aga?

Does it cost a zillion pounds a day to run?

Just back from a holiday cottage which had an oil fueled Rayburn in the kitchen. It was amazing. We are playing idly with the idea of one now - there is a space in what is now our dining room where the house would have had a range of some kind originally. We are already thinking of putting the kitchen back into this room so now wondering about putting a range of some kind back in as well.

Probably wouldn't buy new, so it's not the initial outlay that's the financial concern, but whether the running costs are crucifying.

They’re lovely, I’d really like one in our old, chilly house, but I just can’t afford one. You could have a wood burner that would give just as much heat but cost a fraction- that’s my plan.

Not read other answers but my Aga is one of the joys in my life. Never turn it off. It’s my only means of cooking and the only heating in my huge kitchen/family room.

I have to move house soon and I’d have another in a heartbeat.

Anyone else initially think this was a baby name thread? 😅

I have a four oven oil fired Aga and it is worth its weight in gold! It's a draughty old house with a huge kitchen and big orangery off the side of it, all stone floors, looks beautiful but is absolutely
Bloody freezing! The Aga is the only thing that makes the space liveable and warm, it dries all my washing so no tumble dryer/miscrowave/kettle/toaster, we use it for everything. It's improved my cooking No end as cooking with radiant heat is a totally different way.

It stays on all year round and only went off a couple of years ago when we had those high 30deg + days and I couldn't cope with the heat! It costs about £50 a week to run but helps heat two of the bedrooms above it - my daughter's bedroom feels like it has underfloor heating because the heat radiates through the chimney breast and her floorboards.

I am firmly of the view that if we ever moved house I would definitely be buying a reconditioned one as I'd never want to be without one, it really is the heart of our house.

Has anyone had their AGA taken out? Who did it and what were the pitfalls. Ours is a four oven gas model, lovely but total impractical to use with the cost of gas now. Advice, please?
