How do I fix this???

Grateful for any pointers!

The corners of my door frames are battered. Do I need to use filler and then repaint, or is it going to be a plastering job? I have no idea...

Personally I’d just sand that, fill, sand again and paint, I don’t think there’s enough damage to warrant plastering.

The architrave that is bashed/damaged in the first picture you could possibly replace, although personally I’d probably just sand and live with the dent in it.

Thanks so much! I think I can handle a bit of sanding.

Possibly a stupid question, but what filler do I need?

For filling plastered type surfaces, I prefer pollyfilla or equivalent, ie filler you make up with water. For woodwork repairs, I’d use a two part filler like Ron seal wood repair filler- more expensive but lots tougher.

In your case it looks like pollyfilla would be ok, it’s mostly the plaster that needs filling.

Great, and thanks again for helping, and especially such a quick reply!

You don't seem to have any architrave? Generally this runs down the frame on the wall to the floor, then the skirting butts up against it. It would protect the wall from all the scuffs/chips.

Blimey, that's bashed up OP. You'll get a decent enough finish with sanding/filling & painting though I'm not sure how long it'll last with hard traffic. If the holes are deep fill them in stages, or even wedge tightly screwed-up newspaper in to take up space before filling the top. To get a really good stick before filling I like to prep the surface by giving it a quick once-over with undiluted pva. This makes a really strong grab with the filler. Ordinary Polyfila will do. If bits of the actual architrave are badly dented/missing around the door, it'd use that 2 part epoxy filler that comes in a tin, (I forget the name) but that stuff is harder & more durable & can be sanded & painted too.

In the future, that edge that looks like a long dirty slit opening, an internal metal corner bead could be fitted and plastered over and that'd protect it against bashes.
