Accessing base unit in kitchen

I’m not as agile as I ought to be, and I find it an effort to reach into the base unit in the kitchen where pits, pans, baking tins, jugs etc live. It’s rather jumbled in there.

Any idea how to reorganise the cupboard so I can easily get to the items I need without scrabbling around on my hands and knees?

Is the kitchen still available- if so I would look at replacing the cupboard with drawers. If not, I would suggest fitting internal drawers.

If you can’t fit internal drawers ( look at ones with base runners, they are much easier to fit) you could put plastic baskets in, which contain the various items. I have ones which are 28 cm ( basket weave, buy them everywhere ) but about 32 deep, so you can get two side by side iron each shelf. That means they are not too heavy and unwieldy. Then you can just pull them out and put them on the worktop if you need too.

the other thing I find really useful, because I find it hard to crouch down or bend over is a little seat on wheels which means you can look into especially the freezer drawers without losing balance etc. Horrid couloir , but I have three and I have sprayed them all different colours with Plasticote!

Spot on advice. Drawers are your friend.

Ha, not just me with a low kitchen seat! Was a bit embarrassed to mention it, but I have a cheap plastic desk chair on wheels that was my dc's. The hydraulic cylinder has failed so it now sinks as you sit on it. However, this makes it perfect for working at low levels like loading the washing machine, or reaching into low cabinets. Saves my back so much trouble!

Thanks for the replies. It looks like baskets are the way forward. The kitchen is no longer available and it’s a double cupboard so no internal divider to attach drawers too.
When I win the lottery, I’m going to have a huge kitchen with those deep drawers that you can fit pans in!
