Who is good with colour?

Just moved to our first owned house. We hate this kitchen but it will have to stay budget wise and it is in good nick (may paint it eventually) The one thing we want to rip out now are the tiles which are poorly grouted and creating dust. Either new tiles , stick on tiles or paint. Not sure what colour(s) though? The rest of the house will eventually be white walls and bright accent colours (hot pinks, deep blues, emerald greens, flashes of yellow). Any colours that wouldn't look awful with the orangey wood that would tone it down/deflect attention? Thanks

I can recommend the rust oleum tile paint and they do little sample packets you can try. I'd look at greens in your kitchen if it were me, a pale green could look nice!

I agree with PP, the units don’t look too bad, the tiles make the kitchen look dated IMHO.

Vivid orange or green.

Paint the cabinets and change the handles to update. If you remove tiles, you may need to replaster if you want to paint walls. You can buy paint for cabinets in wide choice of colours in B&Q.
Check out their website for ideas.

Paint the cupboards white, get new handles, get worktop wrap to change the worksurfaces and prime and paint the tiles to go with whatever wrap you get for the worksurface. I did that to ours and it's now unrecognisable.

Paint the units (I'd go for light neutral colour) and new handles.

The tiles are the worst part for sure. I'd prob just go for simple metro tiles or if u can afford something nicer I'd go for smaller tiles done herringbone. Wrap for the kitchen worktops if you can't afford to replace them and new modern taps (unless current ones are nice).

Oh wow thanks. I Like the colour suggestions . We really can only stick to one thing currently and limited space and time means painting the cabinets will have to wait until the summer. Good point about removing the tiles and the effect on the paster!! Im wondering if painting the tiles to start with might be the best plan but how about the horrible dusty brown grout?

If the grout is dusty, you'll maybe need to seal it or something before you paint the tiles/grout else the paint won't stick. I'm old fashioned and I quite like the look of the tiles as they are. No accounting for taste is there? Smile

Not sure if this would work with the grouting but when I've painted our tiles I've covered the grout in paint too then used a grout pen to draw the white grout lines back in. You can't tell at all that it's been done that way and it is so quick and easy

Twin Pack White Grout Pen - Designed for restoring tile grout in bathrooms & kitchens (White) amzn.eu/d/2CwRs4Y

These work perfectly over the top of the Rust-oleum tile paint

You can scrape out the grout and regrout and then paint, but in that time you can have it almost replastered and retiled. Even if you only repaint the cabinets in the summer, I would choose now a full colourscheme for how you want your whole kitchen and neighbouring rooms to look eventually and just ignore the wood and everything else. If you are able to change/cover the worktop eventually, then also take this into account. Personally, I would get a marble look worktop wrap, paint units white and then get tiles in a colour you use as accents in your neighbouring rooms, from the colours you mentioned I think pink would be on trend for kitchen tiles (maybe not too hot, though) and look lovely with white marble. I would then go for brushed gold handles, ceiling light and taps.

Best grout cleaner I’ve ever found s Waitrose’s own brand laundry stain remover. But it’s vicious stuff and you MUST wear gloves ( I got a spot of it my hand by accident and lost some skin 😘)

Spray it on, rub over the grout with a dry scrubby sponge (the ones with the green top) rinse well and dry off with a soft cloth. It also works on the mouldy bits around silicone seals.

Olive green (ideally on tiles and wall) then buy lots of plants for your window.
