Mixing worktops

Just starting to plan new kitchen and quite like the idea of having a wooden worktop on the island which would have room for seating and no sink or hob and a hard worktop on the other bits, no idea what yet as have not looked into costs but thinking something like quartz. Just think having wood on the island would make it more comfortable for sitting against. Anyone done this, are you happy with what you have done?

We chose microcement for the island and iroko for the rest, both of which im really happy with.

Lots of people don't like the upkeep of wood but we've had iroko in two previous houses without any issues. We've also previously had granite (on island in three houses and perimeter in one) and wouldn't choose it again - although I do have a big granite slab for baking.

Next time I'd like to do white veined marble or quartz.

Yes, in a previous house we had oak worktops on island and on the sides of the kitchen. The "working" bits of the worktop didn't fare too well, particularly around the sink which developed black marks over time even though we were careful. The island however (no sink or hob) remained pristine. We then had wood on island & marble effect stone on the sides when we had new kitchen. Looked lovely.

We had an oak worktop on the island, and quartz around the edge and really liked it.

No experience but think your plan sounds lovely.

We have a whitish quartz worktop and an island with a greenish granite centre and wooden edging. The wooden edge feels nicer than the cold stone.

Think your plan sounds great, makes a room more interesting and as you say more comfortable to lean on than quartz.

I have iroko by the hob and on the peninsula and quartz by the sink and absolutely love it. The iroko is easy to look after
