Herringbone Floor

I’ll preface this by saying I know you should decorate based on what you like and not worry about trends BUT …

Is herringbone flooring about to die a death? I really do love the look of it and would love to have it but I also don’t want to be stuck with it in a few years time when it’s straight planks that are popular again and I’ll think how amazing that looks I’m sure!

Me too. Love it but it's so on trend I fear it will then date very quickly

procrastinator8 · 16/12/2022 22:51

If it’s not the real thing, I would go for straight planks

It's horrific. Would put me off a house instantly.

No it’s timeless. It’s not like it’s a new design, houses have had herringbone parquet for years

It's a classic unfortunately it's become fashionable. I'm replacing the laminate flooring in my Victorian flat and herringbone is my first choice.

It is on the way out. Obviously if you have original herringbone parquet then it won’t be out of fashion as it will be appropriate to your house but engineered herringbone is very overdone now.

Long herringbone is fashionable.

Short herringbone is classic and will not date.

Herringbone may be on the way out for the moment, but my PILs had lovely, incredibly well preserved herringbone in their sitting room that was over 250 years old. Warm, mellow, covered with various rugs from their travels. Looking at it lifted my mood

I would go with what you love, rather than worry about fashion

You my opinion for what it’s worth is it is overdone at the minute and will start to look dated.

I do love it - but decided against it because I was a bit sick of seeing it everywhere.

I think it will look dated in a few years unless it’s real and in a period property:

but - go with what you like. And also what the hell do I know😂😂. interior design is so stressful - spending thousands of pounds and hoping you will still live it in ten years time!!
