Me again 🙈
Here's my second draft kitchen plan- I would LOVE to know what you think, what you'd change, etc etc :)

The oven is very far away from the hob and sink and also across a walkway so not ideal in terms of carrying hot things. I'd prefer to have to oven in the 'work zone' with the sink/hob etc and keep that side of the kitchen for storage.

theemmadilemma · 16/12/2022 12:46

Agree with @otherusername

I'd look to put it wher the 900 unit is by the sink. Have like a pull out thin larder between that the appliance. It's a better workflow.

Merlott · 16/12/2022 12:49

Where do you plan to put down hot trays taken from the oven?

Agree put the oven nearer the hob and "hot/active" worktop

Frenchfancy · 16/12/2022 12:51

I had the same thought as the others.

Also, where is the fridge?

Escapefromcolditz · 16/12/2022 12:54

Is that a small dishwasher opposite a large dishwasher? Watch for door clash and consider movement when you’re using them.

I’d prefer a two bowl sink.

Echo points on the distance from oven to work surface and transit of children/animals when you’re carrying hot things/have slightly damp oven gloves that mean your hand gets burned while you’ve nowhere to put it down (experience).

Sorry, don’t understand the larder layout.

What’s behind the French doors and is it anything you’ll use a lot because it’ll be a pain to get to in the summer if you keep the doors open.

Don’t forget sink task lighting for winter (also experience)

howmanybicycles · 16/12/2022 13:24

Get a 1.5 bowl sink if you can

you are all totally right. ABout the oven over there. It's prime child, cat, dog walk way with hot trays and only the island for a landing space- will def look at his again. Thank you, very helpful

As I said on your other thread, swap the kitchen and dining room. the whole space will work much better

Pipsquiggle · 17/12/2022 09:11

Saw your old thread then saw this one. I have had my new kitchen for 2 years, I love it, however, if I did it again I would:

*get a big american style fridge/freezer instead of 2 integrated fridge freezers. I had one before these and it was just so much easier than the ones I have now.

I would look at changing the sink to a 1.5 bowl that fits in a 600mm cupboard unit. There are loads you can look at.

I LOVE my quooker tap. I would downgrade on other stuff to keep it. In fact we went with DIY Kitchens which saved us thousands on the units.

Floor - we went for a dark-ish matt wood effect herringbone - I love it. Really low maintenance. It doesn't show up marks which is really helpful with DC. Some of my friends have stunning light marble shiny floors but they are forever cleaning them.

I have a pull out bin that takes up a cupboard - it has 4 compartments so great for recycling, rubbish and food waste - I love it. Great that you have it on your island as that is where most of your food prep will be

It might be good to flip the kitchen into the dining space and see how that feels - just so you've looked at all the options - particularly if you use those French doors all the time.

iknowimcoming · 17/12/2022 09:38

Sorry but I agree with pp, I think it would work much better with the kitchen/dining areas swapped round but I'm guessing it won't fit an island in that space?

ihopeyourehappynow · 17/12/2022 09:49

Would you consider having the hob on the island? It's not for everyone but that would allow you to put your oven tower where the hob is on your current plan. I'd also hate to have a hob without work surface both sides to set plates/utensils etc

Celeste777 · 17/12/2022 09:51

Hon on the island and oven in the right... ooh that's worth a look. We could switch to induction and no gas moving either. Thanks for the suggestion!

OP posts:
ihopeyourehappynow · 17/12/2022 10:03

I love my induction hob - even my mother who has sworn by gas for years is considering converting after using ours - flat profile would work well on an island and there is the added bonus that you can pot your hot stuff straight from the oven onto it if it's not being used by pans of course.

Only other thing to consider is the extractor hood - you can get some really fancy ceiling ones now, but not sure how easy they are to install and vent outside

ihopeyourehappynow · 17/12/2022 10:03

PUT your hot stuff

Overthebow · 17/12/2022 10:07

What would be in the big space to the left of the island? Looks like the room would feel quite empty. It’s a big space so would be a bit of a waste really. I agree with the others, swapping kitchen into dining space would work much better.

NotMeNoNo · 17/12/2022 10:14

Feels to me the sink and hob are jammed into a corner which will quickly fill up with rubbish. The only useful space is the island which means everything has to be carried.
I would make island longer and put the hob near one end. But not sure the space is really big enough for an island

Celeste777 · 17/12/2022 13:35

Here's another option

Do you use your French doors a lot? If so it might not work.

Also, I really don't like how the handles from the fridge-freezers and the then the cupboards next to it are not in a straight line. It's really jarring.

Snoofox02 · 17/12/2022 20:12

I would put your bin right by sink.
