New roof

Had a new roof installed and we haven't moved in yet but there is water dripping down between the felt and the insulation. Is this normal in an empty house?

Or is it likely to be a leak?

Have you had rain recently? I thought the waterproof liner is supposed to drain any incoming water (which there shouldn't be on a new roof) into the guttering.

There shouldn't be any condensation in the loft, especially if the house is empty. Although it's not unheard of for bathrooms to be vented into the loft instead of externally (by stupid people).

Sounds like a leak to me. Though could maybe be condensation if the inside of the house is a bit damp?

Both builder and chimney installer say it would be condensation and I have to admit we have had lime plaster going on so lots of water internally and no rain. Plus super cold outside! The roof is vented at the top so hopefully when heating on it will dry out doesn't bode well for the future

Yep. I agree. If you have been having loads of plastering it is most likely to be condensation.

Recently, I also had problems with a leaking roof and when I started to repair the roof, I used this resource technonicol.in/ Here I found interesting quality and stylish materials and later used roofing shingles with 5 layers. So far there are no complaints about the quality, I hope I forgot about the leak for a long time.

Is it vented at the eaves also? (at the bottom of the slope where the guttering is fixed) because you need cross flow of air to keep condensation away, just venting the ridge wont be enough.

nepolibats · 17/02/2023 23:24

I didn't know that- it is vented at the ridge. I think also at the eaves. It seemed to calm down after all the plastering has dried up, but then it hasn't really rained for us to know that it definitely wasn't a leak!
