New boiler - neurotic or get it checked?

Hi everyone, continuing my bathroom renovation from hell (still not finished), the same company also moved boiler from upstairs to downstairs and changed to a new combi boiler.

I chased as was not left paperwork, to which apparantly he forgot to leave the gas safety certificate and would drop it off. (Work completed last week, but was asking me today if I had fire alarms and CO2 detectors).

I asked about the building compliance certificate and was met with general confusion. I rang the gas safe registry and surprise! It hadn't been registered.

Chased the engineer who didn't know (?!?!) he had to register it. I provided the phone number for him and it is now registered (I have double checked and it is)

Part of me wants to get boiler immediately serviced by a new company to check it has been done right, but is this just me being neurotic???

You could go on Gas Safe and nominate your install for an inspection.

www.gassaferegister.co.uk/gas-safety/home-gas-safety/new-gas-appliance-installation/nominate-appliances-for-inspection/

It certainly doesn't add up that he "didn't know" he had to register it - every gas engineer knows they have to register their installs! Most gas engineers do them online on the gas safe website, it's part of their legal requirements .

I don't think there's any harm in getting a third party company in checking the boiler, especially for your peace of mind. Although something to bear in mind, if this other company do find any faults, I think you are obliged to give the original installer the opportunity to put that right. My SIL fell foul of this once. She had a complete cowboy install her bathroom who was taking ages and generally leaving this unfinished and a mess, and at her whits end, got another company in to finish off. She tried to deduct the third parties bill of her originally installer. The originally installer took her to court and, unbelievably, even though she had evidence of his poor workmanship, she had to give him some (not all ) recompense because she hadn't given him the opportunity to put things right. She had no trust that he would ever finish the job, but because she didn't give him the opportunity to do so with a deadline, she didnt have a leg to stand on. It makes it so hard to trust certain tradespeople.

@MishaBukvic amazing thank you! Will definitely nominate it!

It's so heartbreaking to be stuck with cowboys isn't it? I went through a shop this time to try and mitigate that and literally everything but the showerscreen and wall grout has turned up wrong or incomplete.

Have ended up paying a premium to project manage it myself!

This is the reason I went with British Gas.

They are more expensive, but technically they are much better than all the independents I had look at my boiler replacement. They also did a very good job, the whole thing happened really smoothly from the date of install, to disposal of the old boiler and picking up the rubbish (BIFFA) afterwards.

They also highlighted a couple of issues with the install that the independents just glossed over. I had one guy insisting that the feed pipe wasn't big enough (when it clearly was) and would involve an expensive extension, another that didn't want to dispose of the condensate properly but just drip it directly into the soakaway.

I guess the good news is that (I believe) any independent that can register an install is almost certainly technically qualified. To be fair a lot of independents are really bad on completing paperwork/certification. The guys I have that did my electrical install have a great system when the certificate is automatically produced online and you can download it from the web.

@GasPanic Ahh see I went with BG in last house and had incredibly rude engineers and it was a horrific experience!

I did however try to get a quote this time and they said I'd have to wait 7 months!
