DIY a Hemnes Bookcase - can I paint or cover this?

I have bought another Hemnes bookcase from Ikea and they no longer do all white, the new ones are brown/wood inside. I would love to make it like the original and white inside.
Has anyone ever painted the inside of one of these? i am considering covering it in white vinyl on the back board but would love to hear from anyone who has tried to do this.

I've painted something similar. You need a good primer like Zinsser All-Coat, and you really need to give the surfaces a quick rub down with fine sandpaper first to give them a "key" to help the paint adhere to them.

Using vinyl on the back panel seems like a good idea. I haven't done it, but it should give a really even finish if you can avoid trapping air bubbles. Use a squeegee to help with this. There are plenty of videos online - worth watching a couple to get the idea!

I paint most my secondhand ikea furniture at some point and there are hundreds of videos online of others doing the same.

I clean with sugar soap, light sand to key the surface and use Zimmerman primer. Then whatever paint I want. Mainly frenchic but rustoleum or even normal eggshell is fine. I sometimes add a varnish/to coat to protect.

or - lots of delightful vinyls online nowadays so just wrap in that. Again many videos showing you how.

awesome thank you everyone. I didnt want to spend a fortune on it and then it not to take/peel
i think the back may be easier to vinyl and then paint the shelves, will have a look when i get home. I wish they still sold the old all white one, cant even find one second hand close to me

Isn't the hemnes range painted pine? That would be easy to paint. The back might be a foil over particleboard though which would need a decent key and primer.

If you are worried about it just paint one shelf to begin with. Agree with others lots of professional furniture makeover people on YouTube just "scruff" sand so a light sand to get rid of the glossy surface, a good primer like Zinsser and then a top coat. Remember to let paint cure not just dry then it will be much more resilient to knocks.
