Howdens Kitchen installed - is this finish acceptable?

i am having my first new kitchen installed (following a leak). The work has been ongoing for months but hopefully we are nearing the end (fingers crossed).

The kitchen fitter insisted on going with Howdens and we have had a number of problems (the measurements weren’t right so my washing machine and some cupboards didn’t fit, they have had to put in blocks of wood which the cupboards have been attached to rather than the wall etc). On the whole it now looks okay but under the top cabinets (where spotlights etc are going to be installed) it looks a mess (different woods have been slotted together as the carcasses didn’t fit). I think it looks unfinished. I am not sure whether this is usual/ it matters?

Obviously you won’t see this unless you look under the cabinets but I had always thought there might be some sort of finish/bottom panel that might be added to ‘finish off’ the look? I don’t know whether to go back to the fitter on this or just leave it? Am I being fussy? - grateful for your thoughts.Thank you.

I have to clean that surface quite often. Things splash up there, the kettle steams etc.

I'd want it sealed in some way, yes a facing panel. Mine has a white melamine finish, but I don't have gaps like yours, it's simply the finish of the cabinet.

I don't really notice the underside of mine as it's below head height and even when sitting at the kitchen table we're far enough away that the pelmet bit hides it. Checking it now, there's no sort of cosmetic cover there, but the melamine facing on the units is roughly colour matched to the doors and there are no gaps like yours have, so it looks pretty good.

I'd probably try to forget about it unless you have seats positioned where you can see it, but I do remember a previous (rented) house had a bit of a messy finish under there and it annoyed me, as we ate at a table nearby but down a step from the kitchen.
