A Nest sounds like I would hate it. So I want to suggest something good and straightforward, but don't know what!

Nests are really easy and straightforward to use! What is it about them you don't like?

I haven't used Nest but we have Hive which I believe is very similar. I must admit I was a bit dubious at first as it sounded/looked complicated but once it's set up it is really easy to use. In fact, so easy my parents have now had it installed too 😀

It sounds like it is designed to keep a well insulated modern house at a consistent temperature 24 hours and be controllable by app and when you aren't there etc. We have an old stone cottage which we have improved with better insulation, but it is still not comparable to a modern build by any stretch. We are home all the time. We don't mind and can only afford it to be fairly cool, so we are not keen on all the features of a Nest. We don't want it to learn how we behave!

I am a dinosaur and don't like using apps, I avoid parking if there is an app involved or ordering food ditto! And I'm also thinking that smart things get superseded at an exponential rate and glitch and fault.

I hate mine, I don't want an app telling me when I'm hot or cold.

We live in an ancient stone cottage and have a Hive which is very similar the Neat. It works really well. You don’t have to use the app if you don’t want to. You can control it from the thermostat/timer unit.

Nest, not Neat!

We just have a wireless thermostat downstairs and controls where we can set timed periods for heating. Simple, very little to go wrong, and as we WFH, easy to boost it when we need it for longer periods than the timed settings.

You can just turn off auto schedule so it doesn't learn. I use it just as a normal thermostat controlling the temp myself.

We don't have a consistent temperature, just a bit of heating morning and evening. You can use it without the app although the app is great.
