Flooring help

I need new flooring in my living room (currently carpet) & for a garden office that is being built.

I want some type of wood.

Should I go for traditional hardwood in the living room & was thinking of laminate for the office.

I've only ever had original wooden flooring so am a novice when it comes to knowing what to get, pros & cons.

Any recommendations for where to buy?

I'm going for engineered wood, has that wooden look but doesn't have as much maintenance or tendency to warp/expand like real wood does. A lacquered wood will be fairly hardy for your needs, if you want to learn more there are a few past threads on Mumsnet about engineered flooring that you can Google.

A lot of people on here also seem to love LVT, better for high traffic, it's really a matter of personal taste though.

@JaffacakeJanine is engineered wood expensive? I will search, thank you.

Check out wood and beyond, it can vary in price but I think it's worth it :)

Have had both oak and laminate in new house. The oak does wear, and is more expensive, but looks and feels better in the long term.

If you are considering laminate look at Vinyl planks instead.
We are replacing our laminate gradually with vinyl, all upstairs done and lounge too. It’s Warner than laminate, easier to fit and softer so less likely to break things if you drop them. Also it doesn’t chip at the edges and you can repair it more easily
