What comes first - flooring or built in wardrobe?

I am having improvements done to our bedroom and having luxury vinyl plank flooring and a triple fitted IKEA Pax wardrobe built in.

Do I get flooring first and place the wardrobe on later or vice versa?

I'd do the flooring first. It would give the option of doing away with a built in wardrobe.

Flooring first and easier to do if bedroom is as empty as possible

They ripped out our carpets to put in wardrobes (starplan). So i would say wardrobe. As more likely to change flooring before built in wardrobe

Interesting thoughts! I was thinking of getting hard flooring with a 25 year guarantee. Not sure what the lifespan of a wardrobe is.

Empty bedroom. Do the flooring, then the wardrobe and move back in :)

I'd do the flooring last. It's doubtful you'd change the wardrobes before the floor and I'm guessing the wardrobes would dent the lvt underneath anyway, after being in situ for an extended amount of time.

Pax wardrobes aren't like kitchen units where you put a plinth on afterwards that hides the cabinet legs. Put the flooring down across the whole floor then put the wardrobes on top.

We bought a house with IKEA wardrobes which were left, unexpectedly, by the owners. We have discovered they only carpeted up to the wardrobes.

As Pax aren't proper built in wardrobes, I would definitely do flooring first.

In terms of longevity of Pax wardrobes, at least 15 years and that was dismantling and reassembling them too to move house a couple of times. We have also changed up the interior fittings a lot with the children's wardrobes due to changing needs. Honestly, they should last you.

Floor first and then wardrobes. Yes it will probably dent the flooring but you do not want the faffing around that comes with cutting LVT around the wardrobes. The side panels are slightly further forward than the plinth at the front so it is not a straight edge. Plus if you need to decorate you will be trying to lift the wardrobes over the lip of the flooring which could damage it. Not a good idea.

Great ideas from you all - thank you.

Any recommendations for real fitted wardrobes or are Pax but hacked by installer just as good?

In the same boat, we are getting our flooring done first as we aren't sure how tall the underlay and flooring will be - ie is the plinth for the pax going to be tall enough, if it isn't we may have some difficulty opening the doors 🤣

Planning to use unflatpack to help create the built in look :) searched around for fitted wardrobe companies but it was £1000s more, the only quote that was lowish was for sliderobes, but I'm not a fan of the plasticy or mirrored look on wardrobes so didn't end up plumping for it.
