Perfect Fit blinds

How much insulation do they give?

My dining room window had 3/4 curtains which I don't close very often because it blocks off the radiator. Or if I do then I stuff them behind the radiator and it's a mess.
Last winter I got a wooden venetian blind and close that at night and it definitely makes the room warmer.

I'm just having new windows fitted, these are white upvc whereas old ones were stained wood, and I think the old wooden venetian blind won't look as good against the new white.

So am considering the perfect fit ones, but these are aluminium rather than wood and just wondered what people who have them think about the insulation aspect.

I've had the same at my utility window (no curtains), and I'm going to try a perfect fit blind there - but it is only 1 pane whereas the dining room is 3.

I have them all over the house. I wouldn't say they provide much insulation to be honest most likely because the trickle vent isn't covered so that lets in a draught when it's open.

Chasingsquirrels · 30/11/2022 15:38

Thanks, which the do you have?
There seem to be a honeycomb fabric, venetian or roller.

I have the Venetian style downstairs and rollers upstairs. Bedrooms have either Roman blinds or curtains to help blocking light as alone they're not that great.

Downstairs I just have the blinds I'm considering adding other blinds/curtains to dress the window more and help with heating the rooms

I have venetian and the pull down up ones - which are great because you can do them from either the bottom or the top.

the venetian slats are aluminum, so have probably a bit of a radiation shielding, but the slats do have gaps on the overlap, so I wouldn't say they are wonderful. The pull down up ones probably have a bit of an air gap at the top and bottom but probably seal off the air space a bit better than venetian.

Both types probably trap a layer of air in front of the windows so provide some benefit. They are probably no better/worse than curtains IMO. I suppose if you were really keen you could put some film over the frame. But are your windows really that bad anyway and if you are that keen on optimising the thermal performance you would probably be better off with triple glazing.

Thanks.

I would hope the windows aren't bad at all, they have only been fitted this week!
But there is still going to be heat loss though windows, and covering them in some way will help reduce this.
And also to "block out the night" when we are using the room in the evening.
The previous wooden venetian blind did seem to do the job well enough, with the curtains as dressing to the sides.

Venetian blind was really nice in the dining room, as it gets sun all afternoon and can be very bright.

I'm going to get one for the utility and see what I think, just have to decide which type.

Can you get the honeycomb style with a foil lining, I have some of those in a bay window and they do make a noticeable difference in keeping the room warmer.

Chasingsquirrels · 30/11/2022 20:43

Okay, I've found those with foil linings now - thanks. Will get one of those for the utility, it's just whether I go with venetians for the dining room.

Or just put the old brown wood one back up and live with it 🤣

@RitaFires do you have a link to the type of blind you have? This sounds exactly what I need

OP sorry for the threadjack as I'm also interested

Chasingsquirrels · 30/11/2022 20:49

Hijack away 😇
I think it is this type, www.blinds-2go.co.uk/perfect-fit-pleated/34918/duoshade-arctic-white.html
I filtered on thermal and the duoshade has the lining.
This was just the first link I found, buying direct from PerfectFIT might be cheaper.

@mangomary They're duoshade from blinds-2go. I'm really happy with them, they definitely keep the heat in.

mangomary · 30/11/2022 20:57

Thank you to you both :)

We've got the lined honeycomb perfect fit blinds in our kitchen patio doors (it's like a jutting out glass box) and the insulation is fantastic. Keeps the room cool in the summer and notably warmer in the winter.
