What to do?

I'm currently looking for somewhere to live. I found my dream house with everything on my tick list, so on Saturday, I put forward an offer.

My issue is that already it feels like the vendors are dragging their heels (it took over a week to arrange the viewing and now today I had to call the estate agents to check they had received my email as I hadn’t heard anything).

Whilst this has been going on, I went to see another house. Nowhere near as perfect (needs a lick of paint and a little modernisation) but on a really expensive road (albeit on the corner which according to family is a problem but I was paying attention to it today and couldn't hear anything) so it will hold it's value and it has a really warm feel to it - it's really loved and everything in it has been thought about. The house is well priced considering it's location - probably because it hasn't been fully extended. Also, the people in it are ready to move and have somewhere to go and would be really cooperative.

Should I go for house number 2 and turn it into my dream home or stick with my dream home? I'm just terrified of being messed around by people and those who don't know what they want.

I'd go for location every time. I had the choice of two and am so glad I offered on this one - although fed up the single decker bus has been terminated.

Everything in it has no relevance unless you’re buying the contents. So if you remove the nice stuff what’s left? A dated house needing modernisation? The warm feel comes from their stuff. That stuff goes with them

What I meant about everything in it - inbuilt wardrobes which are stunning and recently renovated bathroom, the garden is really spacious and pretty. The living room and kitchen need a little work but it's nothing that's insurmountable or will cost a fortune to sort.

I reject all corner properties.

House number 2. Better location, ready to go. You can make it exactly what you want especially if it doesn't need much work.

The others are maybe hanging on for a better offer.

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 28/11/2022 17:03

House 2 sounds like a great choice. Proceedable, good location potential and most importantly available. If the 1st are dragging already I bet they're hedging their bets in some way

Blossomtoes · 28/11/2022 17:08

It’s a no brainer. House no 2.

mondaytosunday · 28/11/2022 17:21

You seem to be wanting people to say second house. So go for that one! I have no issue with corners - bonus if garden has side access!

fancyacuppatea · 28/11/2022 17:24

Go for it.

Why's that??

im house hunting at the moment, is there something about corner properties I'm unaware of??

I don't know whether it's a thing. My dad used to say because of the traffic noise - people braking and then accelerating. Is it also because of the risk of burglary? Ie, someone scaling the fence. It could be rubbish though.

You only put in your offer a couple of days ago. It's as big a decision as it is to the person buying so they do have to put some thought into whether the offer is good enough.

Which property do you honestly prefer?

@MadameDe oh right, I could happily trade extra risk of someone vaulting the fence, with being end of terrace/semi or detached. Most burglars are too lazy to be vaulting fences anyway.

noise...maybe some places, but I'm not too concerned about that here.

If it was ME, I'd go for Option 2. Mainly because I'd rather do things/have them done how I'd like them than have a completed place I can't justify putting a new kitchen/bathroom in.

plus 'room for extension' is always good whether you do one or it's there when you sell.

However, sellers at no1 wouldn't put me off if I really loved it & if their taste in kitchen/bathroom etc etc matched mine.

what are you thinking??
