No heating - help!

Got up this morning and the heating hasn't come on. Checked the boiler and it looks on with no error code. Did a hard reset. Changed the batteries in the thermostat. Repressurised. Still no heating! We do have hot water though so not sure what's going on! Can anyone help? We really can't afford to call an engineer!

Sounds like a valve has gone

Can you ask on a local FB page?

I will ask my husband when he is home
He is a gas engineer

Is there any error code and can you let me know what the boiler is

MishaBukvic · 28/11/2022 13:00

Could be either the boiler itself or the system,

Like pndorjustme said, it could be a motorised valve on the system. We had this once, it is a metal box with a sliding switch on the side, in the airing cupboard. We had to manually pull the switch from one side in the other to get the heating working until an engineer came out to replace it . A bit like this

Sounds like it is the diverter switch. Can't see a manual override unfortunately so looks like I'll be calling someone 😬 there goes my bonus from work this month which was going to pay for Christmas presents 😭 just on the off chance it's an ideal boiler installed just before we moved in 6 years ago by the previous owners.

What one is it? I think it's the diverter

Also have you got a hot tank could be the Three port valve but I will ask My husband

Are you sure no error code

We just have the boiler. It's a combi so no tank. So annoying!

If the boiler is only 6 years old, it may still be under guarantee?

Worth checking your boiler paperwork.

Sometimes if you call the official boiler company (eg. Baxi) to send an engineer round, they offer you the option to pay for a one-off repair (eg. £300-400) or subscribe to their insurance for a year (around £30 pcm) and have the repair for free. The insurance is usually Domestic & general. I find that taking the insurance out at that point is the better option. You can always cancel it after 12 months. And you'll be covered if something else goes wrong with the boiler during that time....
