How to clean (dried) paint splatters on floor?

I’ve been painting the last few weekends and have some paint splatters on my wood effect Lino floors, what is the best way to clean? I’ve tried scrubbing with soapy water/floor cleaner but it’s hard to lift it all from the grain effect!

I also have one blob on my carpet - hopefully on the spot carpet cleaner will sort this one?

Thanks!

Depends on how big the blobs are. I'd do scratch off with a finger nail and if larger then white spirit

Is it emulsion paint?

MammaWeasel · 27/11/2022 19:19

Scrape it off carefully with the edge of an old credit card

If it's emulsion I'd go over it with hot water and carefully go over it with a scraper like this.

Baby wipes

Baby wipes!

Scrape with a teaspoon!

Baby wipes!

It truly scares me how many things a baby wipe can clean away!!!

On the lino, trying rubbing with a microfibre cloth and kitchen cream cleaner, or Bar Keepers Friend (a powder) made into a paste. Or a magic sponge might work

Indeed! Baby wipes were recommended by our builders and you can see here how effective they were!

@Eastereggs1

Is it emulsion paint?

This is important.

I was trying to shift some dried-on, water-based paint off vinyl tiles last night and the only thing that worked was WD-40.

NellyBarney · 29/11/2022 09:55

First check whether your paint was waterbased or oil based. If waterbased, really hot(!) water and a fingernail (or filling knife/flat head screwdriver) will get it off. If oil based, (the smelly stuff), you'll need white spirit. If nothing budges, you can try gently sanding it off with 180 grit sandpaper, but that might damage the lino.

Eastereggs1 · 29/11/2022 21:00

Thanks all. Yes it is just normal emulsion (Dulux).

My first thought was white spirits but I was worried it would take a layer off the vinyl or something!

Ordinary emulsion paint will soften, slowly, with warm water and WUL

But it will soften much quicker in meths.

As it evaporates quickly, mix a little in an eggcup with WUL (which will also thicken it and prevent it running away). Once it is soft you can remove it with a sponge, or on some surfaces your thumbnail or a nylon pan scourer.

If it dries, it will go hard again.

Small, waterproof items can be left to soak in hot water and WUL.
