Nest Thermostat- What Am I Doing Wrong?!

We have a Nest learning thermostat for our new central heating (we had useless night storage heaters before). Last night was the first time we've put the heating on and the Nest appears to be doing whatever the hell it wants!

I turned off learning mode so I could programme it to come on at 5pm if the temperature was under 18. Then I found it wasn't possible to set it to go off at a certain time, so I set it to the lowest (9 degrees) at 10:30. We went for a walk at lunchtime and came back to the heating on trying to heat to 18 degrees at 1pm and I have no idea why.

So now I've manually switched it off to stop it from switching on when it shouldn't and costing us money. Feels like it defeats the object somewhat to have to switch it on and off manually to prevent it randomly firing up the heating when I don't want it to. So far I'm really not liking it but DH loves a Google gadget so that's why we've got one... not that he can work out what it's playing at either Hmm

I'm updating in case anyone else has the same issue. Our plumber came round today and had another look. He had mixed up the wiring! So turning up the heating actually turned on the hot water, and boosting the water put the heating on! I'm so relieved. It should work properly now.

Oh wow! That’s hilarious, OP!

His wiring skills are a bit concerning!

I know that I am resurrecting a zombie thread, but I am so happy to have found this!
I hate our nest and I most definitely don’t want it to decide when to heat or not!
I think I have dumbed it down sufficiently now to do only what I want and stop heating all the time.
Do not get a Google nest!

I'm also glad to find this zombie. I hate my nest in my new flat. I was trying to link it to Google home tonight and dropped the bloody thing. It's broken. £190 tomorrow to buy a new bloody thing I hate, can't figure out because there are no proper instructions and to change it will mean I'll have a dead thing in the hallway or have to buy paint and filler to cover up where it was.

I had a hive in my last place. It was simple and easy. This nest is just shite. And now I need to fork out to buy another one because I can't control the heating without it. Grrr.

I know this was a zombie thread, but I'm tearing my hair out here. When I moved in. I somehow successfully added hot water to my Nest app (and thermostat). Yesterday it fell on the floor and broke, so I had to buy a new one. I have managed to set up everything except hot water. How do I get hot water to appear on the dial and the app?

I have:
Uninstalled the old device
Added the new device
Set up wireless
Connected to the app.

I cannot find hot water anywhere in the dial or the app, both were there before I dropped and broke the old dial. I am beyond fed up. I cannot find any simple step by step instructions.

We have some kind of link thing next to the hot water tank. You need to add / sync that to your nest. Somehow. It is so bloody unintuitive, isn’t it?!
